Waffen SS also drafted from a certain point of time, but yeah, basically it was a volunteer troop. Reasons to join them were quite varying though...

about the original topic: please NO swatikas, this game does not need this kind of negative propaganda.
I remember TWI already said there will be no swastikas ingame, so the discussion about that can end here.
about using another symbol for the german side: YES, this would be good! maybe the classic balkenkreuz.
Pretty amazing how some people can't seem to grasp why the swastika can't, and shouldn't be put in the game. It's not just an issue of use in Germany, it's an issue worldwide. smh.

That's actually what's I've been asking for a long time. The Balkenkreuz needs to be used because its the official symbol of the Wermacht.
It's not. It's just a stylized form of the Iron Cross used on vehicles and airplanes.
They have no problem playing as a German soldier fighting Hitler's war, but seeing a symbol would be terrible.
Yeah but this is from the Allied imposed government that was imposed on Germany at the end of WW2. The ReichsprThat's right. Just for further information for the people who don't live in Germany
Anyway, it's kinda funny to see how some people are offended by what would be the most historically accurate logo for the German team. They have no problem playing as a German soldier fighting Hitler's war, but seeing a symbol would be terrible.
soviets and germans is normally what I say. I'd guess it'd make more sense to say Soviets and Nazis. People are touchy about Nazis I guess.
Why not just have unit insignias for each map depending on what battalion/army etc was involved?
16th Panzer vs. 1st Guards Tank Army
so:
VS
(Note i am making this confrontation up) sorry its not resizing for some stupid reason
The term "Nazi" was used in Germany to mean those members of the party or those who strictly support them. It would be weird to take this as the name for Germans (in the 3rd Reich) as a whole.
At least "Soviet" is the part of their state's name so it's not plain wrong.
Also "Bolshevist" or "Communist" would rather fit as counterpart to Nazi when expressing political ideals.
