The AT gun is hugely effective, actually

Hi everyone!

So I was playing on the Olgedow server and I got a tank. As I was driving through an open field an AT gunner shot my tank. I switched to the cannon to fire at him, but he shot my turret and destroyed the rotate thingy. That was with 1 shot. 4 shots later he killed my driver, killed my reloader, and killed my machine gunner all in magazine. I switched to the driver seat to move back, but by that time he reloaded and destroyed my engine. I couldn't move. Then after 1 minute of looking for him with the MG, he throw an AT grenade on me and destroyed my tank.

The big open maps is where the tanking shines, and the AT shines as well.

Being an AT soldier is incredibly fun and rewarding on big open maps, and so is tanking, especially when half-tracks come out ;);).

So then I became an AT soldier for the Russians. I saw a panzer 200m away, so I adjusted my sights :D. I shot in 6 times the engine and destroyed it. It was amazing! The first bullet caused a big explosion.

About 20 minutes later I saw another panzer and shot it in the ammo storage. With one bullet it exploded, but didn't destroy the tank. It did kill everyone inside, though.

The german AT gun still can penetrate the russian turret armor from the front and easily kill everything inside it. Try shooting a T34 head on into the turret when the gun is pointing at you. You will see the nice explosion effect, letting you know that you penetrated the turret.

Aim a little to the right (from your point of view) to kill the gunner. Pause a bit as to give the other ai-guy (radio operator) inside the tank some time to auto-climb to the gunner seat and take him out as well.

". . . The greatest success has been attained by squads consisting of two or three antitank rifles placed 15 to 20 yards apart. Such units can bring effective fire to bear on a target, and have a greater chance of putting it out of commission than fire by a single rifle would have.
In selecting positions for antitank titles, detailed reconnaissance of the target area should be made, in addition to the usual local reconnaissance. Eliminating dead spots and protecting against the most likely routes of enemy tank approach are most important considerations. The positions should be echeloned so as to be mutually supporting with fire from the flanks. Antitank rifles in artillery batteries are generally grouped on the most exposed flank of the gun positions. In all cases, the squad leader should select his own position so as to have maximum observation and, at the same time, personally control the actions of the antitank rifles.

In destroying German tanks, Russian antitank riflemen follow a set of directions, which are given here in condensed form as a matter of information:
"1. Show daring. Let the enemy tanks come within 200 yards or closer. The best range is 100 to 200 yards. Don't let the enemy fire lead you to open your own fire too soon.
"2. The antitank rifle can fire 8 to 10 rounds per minute, if the gunner and his assistant use teamwork. The gunner opens and closes the breech, aims, and fires; the assistant, lying on his right, cleans and oils the shell and places it in the chamber.
"3. Remember that for a distance of as much as 400 yards, the effect of the wind need not be considered.
"4. Remember the deflection correction for the movement of the tank. At a speed of 22.5 miles per hour, a lead of 1 yard is required for every 100 yards of range.
"5. Aim for the rear of the turret
