Default Karelian Front - Forests of Finland

And we're back! This time we got some more progress to show you, a nice little treat to decorate your desktop and some information about the future.

First of all, some say that Karelian Front will just be Red Orchestra 2 in a different location. Russian forest, Finnish forest, German forest, all the same. What's the difference? However we think that northern vegetation hasn't ever been done properly in games and that is what we want to change. We want to get the full potential from forest which offer a battleground with rocks, hills and dense undergrowth.

You can see from the in-game shot that there is still too much space, and that we are not there yet as Unreal Engine provides us with all kind of challenges to overcome. But when we are ready, you will have an unique environment to play around in. And let me tell you, you'll love it!

Alright, lets move to the stuff you all want to see and are here for. Our first map, Tyrjä, is getting along nicely and we've got another progress photo to show to you. And for those wondering, we are also working on other maps too! However we want to focus on showing how one of the map progresses. We'll bring the rest to the public when it's time

Secondly, what kind of Finnish war map would it be if it didn't have birch trees? We have got those covered as well! Along with some rocks to create new kinds of shapes to the environment for players to take cover in.

And finally, some beautiful concept art which we're offering to you to use as a background image on your computer!

You can download the image from here (1920x1080)

And that's all we got for you this time. Thanks to everyone who has been supporting us so far. You're the best! Also, don't forget that we are always recruiting for all kinds of talent. So whether you are a coder or a 3D artist, and you would like to work on this awesome project, don't hesitate to contact us via our website.

And don't forget to follow us in our official pages at Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Steam and ModDB.

Great great, i'm loving it guys!
And yes, this terrain was never covered or at least covered well enough, so it's an awesome idea and you should stick to it

By the way, i think it's very "helpful" if you provide the community screenshots or artworks of your progression, even if it's only one picture.
Everyone knows that you are working on it _and_ stick to it because one is actually provided with proofs ;P

Looks amazing. Perhaps you could get some help from the RS team when RS is out and they're not as busy anymore. One of the maps they showed in the trailer looked like it had lots of vegetation on it. You might be able to get some tips on optimization from them.

Also, thanks for the awesome wallpaper and update. Best of luck on your project.

Wow! Great work guys!

Will you share your static meshes with mappers like Harley did? Its a shame that mappers have to deal with the few ugly ones from HoS wit 2 lods etc.

Regards Culti

Really nice to see that you are paying attention to the details. Local landscape, local architecture, fitting rocks... small but beautiful details that make this mod special. I am really looking forward to it!

First looks very good, the forest look different from what I've seen so far on Bridges of Druzhina or Winterwald.
It will be a completely new experience to play there
Go on like this, I almost can't wait to play it!

Second two questions:
1) Will there also be winter maps?
2) Will the skin of the hero-rifleman or hero-sniper be the look of Simo Häyhä?

Thank you for the nice words!

And two answers for you:
1) Yes! It wouldn't be a mod about the Finnish war if it didn't have at least one winter map in it
2) We haven't thought of it, it's an interesting idea though. I will not go promising anything regards to this as of yet.

Will there be dug in russian tanks in this map? It would be cool if they would be usable as static turrets as they were at that time in real life, of course that could be too much time consuming to implement..
