Flashlight, fix it, we all want it fixed.

If the engine can't even muster a flashlight that looks as good as the original hl2 light then it's a ridiculous choice of a game engine.

The mod started development before HL2 was even released...
And how much does a Source (HL2) engine license cost? Probably several hundred thousand $
+ Time for recreating the full game beside textures
KF would have probably been released in the Year 2011 and would have cost 40$.
All that just because you don't like the flash light.

Think about that.

So professional that they allow their Government to deploy them in the midst of a Zombie pandemic armed only with a knife, 9mm pistol and a crappy torch.

:p
Don't forget a 15 second torch and a health gun which apparently hates the person using it (takes a lot longer to recharge if you use it on yourself).

I've found the flashlight to be more annoying then useful in this game. It's useless to me in most scenarios because either I need a bigger gun and switching over would be suicide, the batteries die on me and 9/10 at the worst possible time, or when I do use the flashlight (such as at farm) the only thing it really illuminates is the area of the ground I aim it at. It functions the same as a lazer pointer only a wider point.

Personally, if this scenario were real, I'd say screw it and find a nearby gas station, steal a $1 or $2 flashlight and strap it to the side of my gun or shoulder, maybe mount it on a cap or get one of those headlamps. It would be a lot more realistic and would last more than 60 seconds. While it's true there aren't really a lot of places you need the flashlight, I'd still prefer to have one that I could trust over one I had to hope would last long enough.

I've seen UT2004 based games have much, much better Flashlights. I will not accept the current flashlight as limited by the Engine. Like mentioned Prior, Swat 4 had a brilliant Flashlight and it uses UT 2.0 / 2.5, and you guys have a license for it also, so of course you can edit it to be like that.

Yeah, other older other games from like 2002 and such have normal looking flashlights. There must be someway without a total engine switch to get something that doesn't look ridiculous.

Swat 4 as mentioned above (and my other post has a ss of the swat 4 flashlight and it looks fine). This is literally the worst flashlight I have seen in a fps.

Yes and no

Yes and no

I think they should make a buyable flashlight attachment that doesn't cost too much, weighs 1 unit, and is only applicaple to some guns.
And it takes up either the ironsight or alt fire space (e.g., light on bullpulp doesn't allow scoping).

I agree with the attatchment idea, but it wouldnt go on top of a weapon, not ever :p
Theyre attatched to the side or underneath a gun by rails.

I think flashlight should work permanently and it should be attached to your helmet like most Special Ops do it.

I agree, though you sohuld still have the option to turn it off and on :p
And I also agree that it does make things hard to see, especially on farm where it is useless and i would like it improved...

I would argue that its unrealisitc, but hey, we're shooting Zombies

Only thing wrong with the flashlight to me is that once switched on, on the weapon... it goes off automatically when switching weapons. I'd like it to stay turned on, *NO drain when not equipped, but will turn on auto* on whatever weapon i turned it on after having switched back to the weapon I turned it on for.

Most light/laser attachments go under the barrel or to the side, even some specialist scopes like Red dot's come with attachment rings to fit a flashlight/laser on them.

Tbh if there was a buyable which replaced the Eotech on the Bullpup with a flashlight, i'd just ragequit and not play again, the Eotech is what made the FPS lover in me go "OH MY GAAAAAAWD!" (Imagine the quote being said in a very stereotypical gay man's voice).

I have no problem swapping to my 9mm for really dark area's like office stairs, but more weapon customisation would be nice like a Laser on the other 9mm for when you dual wield, so you can see what yer shooting at lol.

Look people this isnt Left 4 Dead, the flashlight isnt going to light everything perfectly 20ft ahead of you. Its meant to be more realistic, and your complaining about things on a $20 dollar game IF you waited that long to get it. Come on really? You people are so nitpicky to complain about little things like the flashlight? I have my brightness all the way up and my gamma a little over half and i rarely need a flashlight, yet I play the game often enough, I know what the stock maps look like? Ever try doing that? LEARN THE MAP, QUIT CRYING LIKE A 2 YEAR OLD WITH A SCRATCH ON THEIR KNEE. it amazes me everyday how much people complain about something that takes 2 seconds to fix.. turn up ur brightness 100% gamma about 60%. gg get good quit whinning

Uh yeah, you didn't read the thread at all. The Flashlight is very unrealistic in the game. A dev even came in and confirmed it's an Engine Limitation, but then Swat 4 uses the same...so?:p

100% Brightness and 60% Gamma? Yeah, I'm sure your game doesn't look like ****.

my only complaint is the bright circle that sits right in front of your gun - it actually makes it harder to see more so than it helps. i'm not talking about the cone of line, i'm talking about the circle of brightness that appears right in front of you gun in 1st person view - looks like just a static semi-transparent image that is floating there, and it really does get in the way, so much so that often times i turn on the flashlight, and find myself trying to look over that circular obstruction, and end up just turning it off to see better lol

Yeah, it looks like they used a sprite for the flashlight almost. It bands and looks so ugly for me.

Try this and see if it helps.

HAHAHHAHAH
HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
HHAHAHA
LOL
realistic? Have you seen how utterly unrealistic the flashlight in this game is? It doesn't act anywhere even close to the realm of a real flashlight, it randomly lights up surfaces and doesn't actually have alight projected in front of you at all (except the pixelated fake light effect on your gun that actually hinders vision)

We are complaining because
1. In many situations it actually hinders vision
2. it's near useless in open dark areas (farm)
3. it's flickery and completely unrealistic.

I'm not asking a for a sexy ub3r real flashlight I just want one that actually lights **** up like a flashlight should. other unreal 2.5 games have achieved this (swat 4 is a pretty old game with a fine looking flashlight)

Edit: according to Wikipedia swat 4 actually using freaking unreal engine 2.0! and bioshock uses a heavily modified 2.5. I think they can get a normal looking goddamn flashlight with some modifications...

Good job, Bwat.

BioShock uses a -very- heavily modified UT 2.5 Engine though, so I wouldn't expect anything in that realm from TWI for many years.

I agree on the comparison to Swat 4. You have an upgraded Engine compared to Swat 4, all of UT 2.0's features and more. You guys COULD have made a better Flashlight, but you DECIDED not too, because of development time?

Three months to convert it from Mod to Retail was just not enough, I still say. It's so much like the mod, it even has the most obvious bugs and glitches still existant. :p

yeah I only mentioned bioshock because I was extremely surprised to see it ran on that engine (although obviously very modified) I had thought for sure it used unreal 3.

Plenty of 4-5 year old games have normal flashlights. Thsi game may be on an old engine but it's 2009 and games with the same and even older engine in the case of swat 4 can manage something decently realistic and useful.

I think "it uses unreal 2.5 so we can't" is a poor excuse.
