Default OPEN GL faster than Direct X

Quote:
The Valve Linux Team breaks it down on their shiny new blog: With an Nvidia GTX 680, Intel i7-3930k, and 32GB of RAM, Windows 7 and DirectX, Left 4 Dead 2 maxes out at 270.6 fps. With the same hardware, but different software — Ubuntu 12.04 and OpenGL — L4D2 scores 315 fps, almost 20% faster than Windows.

Whilst openGL is much more stable, DirectX has windows throwing features at it, so DirectX will probably continue to be used by up and coming games in order to show off the fantastic new graphics. I'd love to see RO2 on OpenGL, as it doesn't use any of those new fandangled things.

Nothing new, OpenGL has always performed faster while using the same features.

I always hated the shift to DX engines.

If it was not for DX bound games I would have ditched Windows years ago for the faster lest bloated platform that is Linux.

That's pretty cool to know i guess, but will undoubtedly change little. Besides, all these tests are run on such absurdly expensive and overpowered machines that they have no bearing whatsoever on what I as a consumer will experience or care about.
