Weapon Sling Upgrade & Related Ideas

A sling upgrade to weapons could be a useful addition to add to the game.

Bear in mind, it is merely a proposition that could make things interesting, and from a gameplay point of view, it doesn't really matter and is a bit superfluous. From a realism perspective, it makes sense, adds challenge, and makes the decision of picking up weapons randomly a more tactical decision.

Also adds something extra to unlock; and is a truely realistic upgrade because slings (I assume, but don't know for sure), were probably rare given the war time resources were strained during Stalingrad for both sides.

Currently, the game allows you to carry two primary weapons (rifles, LMGs, SMGs, etc) despite the weapons not having slings. So, instead of 'having a magic pocket of weapon storage', I propose the following.

  • Players should only be able to carry two primary weapons if they have a sling on their weapon; this allows them to shoulder their current weapon to pick up another one.
  • If the weapon they pick up has no sling, they must drop that weapon in order to use their original weapon again, since it cannot be slung.
  • If both weapons have slings, then the player can swap between both weapons freely, since both can be slung.
  • If the player draws a side arm while holding a weapon without a sling, he drops his current weapon, as it cannot be dropped to dangle.
  • If a player draws his sidearm with two weapons slung onto him, thats fine, because both weapons are securely attached to the player.
  • To add more depth, weapons that are not slung could be dropped if the player interacts with something that requires both hands to operate; such as a ladder.
  • However, something that is static, and requires both hands to operate should not drop the weapon, as the player could have just placed the weapon beside him before he mounts the static object (such as a tripod MG).
