Really the only true way to combat this is, design maps without foliage. This is a limit of the technology of the time, and there is really nothing that can be done to fix it with the current engine build, short of a massive update to the way everything is rendered. All of us seasoned gamers have grown accustom to this, as it has been an issue with competitive gaming for a long time. The only REAL solution is time.
Is the 2000 draw calls a required maximum (because of engine) or a good average number for optimization? Just curious.

ROHOS at launch got around 4000-5000 drawcalls at times. Which was probably the main reason for the fps issues. High drawcalls eat your cpu alive.

Thanks for the info. Lower is obviously better for performance, but there really is no cap if you wanted to push it.

Each draw call is an operation by the CPU, telling the GPU what to render and when. So each static mesh, texture, lightmap, shadow...ect counts as a single draw call. RO2 is limited due to its DX9 core, and can only use the first CPU core for these operations. Thus, resulting in a limited number of draw calls before a decrease in performance. On highest settings, in the editor, I got up to 3500 draw calls before I could "notice" a drop in fps. But my system exceedes recommended specs, and some of the other community members wouldn't be as fortunate.

design decisions are very important and need careful evaluation before making final decision.Design should be legally approved with all copyright and registered logos.
