Honestly, nobody should be using the fixed MGs unless you're confident the enemy team is incompetent. The limited number of placements combined with their distinctive sound effect means that the moment you start firing it, you're going to get every experienced player with a rifle aiming at your head within 5 seconds. Worst of all, they're usually not even placed at a useful position.

I don't know... that MG34 overlooking the Potapova Park is in a godly position... it can be picked off, sure, but it generally takes a high toll on the Soviets. There are some positions on certain maps that exact their weight several times over in blood.

It's really up to personal judgement. If the gun is well placed with a good field of fire, if you hop on and off at unpredictable intervals, if you have a keen eye to spot enemies lining up a bead on you, if you have good trigger discipline, you can do a lot of damage.

There is also the maxim looking down the little gully past the left of the church in that village map I can't remember the name of. (you know, the default map with the church, two housing blocks and the village hall.) The germans often try to cross to the houses at the left of the church and that maxim is great for cutting them down as they run.

That is Spartanovka and by god Russians are given a slice of heaven with their machine gun emplacements. Nearly all of them have over shade so it can be difficult to spot them from a distance, all of them except one are sandbagged and grenade proof unless you can throw a grenade in through the side of the trench where it misses the sheep metal roof plate. Aaaaand even when you think you are hitting them dead on, the bullets all ricochet off the machine gun itself because it is placed well back into their little spot not to mention the gunners are usually sitting far back as well.

The only problems I've encountered with picking off HMGs is a lovely bug where the person firing the HMG isn't in your client's relevancy, so you see an unmanned gun just happily firing itself. Makes it somewhat difficult to hit the shooter (read: impossible with client-side hit detection)

LAMO each class tips you have start with

"THIS IS YOUR JOB"

I guess you don't appreciate me logging on a choosing commander so I can have two smoke grenades, quick respawn and too keep noobs from starting arty (which seriously slows my kill momentum due to that infuriating aim knocking "feature" I am adjusting to).

I'd love to play "serious" with you but I feel we might have disagreements over my theory that war is about raw attrition, and that I deserve to choose a certain class just for the smokes alone... cos I'm awesome... or sometimes i'm using the smoke to help the other team so I can unlock some gun :P hey... i didn't invent unlocks
