Killing floor will not start

Hi, new to the forums, joined because I've just started having this problem

> Had killing floor a few months ago, played it fine on Windows 7 64bit
> Recently reinstalled windows, same version
> Installed Killing floor, whenever I start, Splash screen comes up, then black screen, then error message in background, so I have to minimise and end the program. The game gets no further than this. No tripwire logo: nothing.

Error message is always either a C++ runtime error, or something like this:

"Build UT2004_Build_[2004-11-11_10.48]

OS: Windows NT 6.1 (Build: 7600)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 3293 MHz with 4065MB RAM
Video: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series (1107)

unrecoverable error - bombing out

History: UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Free"

Have tried numerous methods:

> Reinstalled KF multiple times with different download servers
> Deleted killingfloor.ini
> Deleted System Folder, then verify game cache
> Verify game cache
> Latest AMD drivers, Microsoft updates
> Reinstalled latest Directx, 9
> Reinstalled C++ redist 2005, 2010, 32bit and 64 bit

Nothing has worked. This is really annoying me, especially as it worked before, and no hardware has changed. The only change has been a new XBOX 360 controller, but i stopped the process and tried, made no difference. Have been playing skyrim, assassins creed, battlefield no problem. Played Nuclear Dawn yesterday fine.

Specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
I5 2500k
AMD HD6950

Would like to fix this quick

"Critical: Windows GetLastError: The specified module could not be found. (126)" usually means that a dll that is needed isn't available, which can be caused by a whole range of things. If you've just installed a 360 pad then the logical thing to do would be to unplug it and uninstall the software, and restart, and see if the same thing happens. You could also try removing the -windowed tag if that's been there since the error started.

The error message isn't that helpful in troubleshooting, it can be caused by any of the systems that the game uses, so video / audio / any of the input devices.

Potential Fix

Potential Fix

Jag I was having the same problem as you. I managed to fix it by deleting steam entirely off of my computer. All of the files. I then redownloaded steam and Killing Floor. After doing so it starts up and works just fine now. The downside of course is that you will have to redownload your entire library of games. Which can take a considerable amount of time depending on how many games you have. It worked for me but I would suggest trying all other options and only using my method as a last resort.

Good luck and I hope you manage to get your problem fixed.
