SCAR-Spec Rifles.

Basically, rifles that fit the SCAR specifications.

The SCAR 16S and 17S:

SCAR 16s, the 5.56 NATO. Civvie version of SCAR-L.

SCAR 17S, the 7.62 NATO. Civvie version of SCAR-H.

Robinson Arms XCR:

XCR-L, 5.56 NATO, and is a SCAR-spec rifle, with conversion kits for 7.62x39, 6.5 Grendel, and 6.8 SPC.

The 7.62 NATO version is still in the works, but there is a photo of what it should kind of look like.

The XCR is a new design, with a bolt and operating mechanism like the AK, but changed for a bit more accuracy. Folding stock, adjustable gas, and ergos that combine the best of the FN FAL and AR15. Nice amount of rails, can easily change calibers, now has a 3.5 lb two-stage trigger, and most of the bugs have been cleaned up. Free floated barrel too. Clocks in around 1800 USD, which is the actual price. Needs some filing on the BUIS or you need to spend the moolah on some HK416 BUIS, made by HK.

The SCAR should need no introduction. It's what SOCOM chose for their new rifle. Has a plastic FDE lower. Uses a copy of the AR-18 operating system and bolt, has mostly same ergos of the AR-15, except the bolt is on the left. Smaller 9, 3, and 6 o'clock rails then the XCR, and the 6 o'clock is attached to the barrel, so not free-floated completely or at all. Clocks in at 2600 USD, but the real prices are near 6k USD. Has integral BUIS, which is nice. Overall a very nice gun, and only complaints on things that don't matter.

The XCR is a very good gun too. It's like an cross between an AR-15, AK47, and FN FAL. Personally I like it best, since I don't like cleaning the AR-type bolts. Also is mostly aluminum, and no plastic except for maybe a stock, and the pistol grip.

Any other rifles to suggest or comments on the two rifles?

Oh and, I forgot the Magpul rifles. If anyone wants to feel free to post pics of them and comment on them :)

So the purpose of this is....?
Well it's just to discuss rifles like the SCAR.

Personally I don't like the looks, but it feels like it's a "form follows function" weapon.

Also it's a place to place gun porn. I know that "all rifles should be made from steel and wood."

Robinson is a tiny company, so they don't have any big .mil contracts. The only stuff that was used was the RAV-02 (Basically a Stoner 63 kind of deal with rails) and that was for the SOCOM SPR-V program.

(Whoops. Can a mod move this to the History section?)

Also, however nice a weapon may look like, it's not going to be good if it doesn't do what the soldier needs it to do. The FN-FAL must've been considered ugly by the people who used it, but today it just feels like a classic.

Then again, having a million rails everywhere isn't exactly necessary. Just one on the top of the receiver should be good enough.

Yay lets make pretty and cute guns so the kid soldiers like them more :D

And so they have, just look at them, they are mostly plastic, often incased in an overdesigned plastic shell that's just there to make it look streamlined and "future-cool", covered in sticklebricks all over, and come in nice and warm colours.. modern firearms really do look like toys.

They may be very functional, sure, but my word they are ugly.. soulless, toyish and overdesigned ugly.

Now that's not to say ugly can't be a good thing, an FN-FAL is pretty ugly, as is the AK and many others, but they are a very different kind of ugly, they have "ugly-charm", they become desireble because of their crude, brutish and all-buisness look, it really works in their favour, new guns though, they are just ugly-ugly, there's no charm about it, it's just computer generated ugly-ugly.

Also, ugly is a funny word, say it.. "ugly", it's fun! :D

Hm.

Screw all y'all. I want one.

It'll look great next to all my Mosins and Mausers.

But first, I need to get out of Kalifornia, so that I can legally buy one.
Well, you CAN get Evil Black Guns (Trademark of the US Public), but you either get a funky grip, or a bullet button, and you can't have more then 10 rounds because 10 rounds obviously is too deadly and is more effective then 1 aimed shot, a flash hider is evil because criminals can hide their flash, even if the sound is loud enough to hurt your ears, no bayonet lugs because too many drive-by bayonettings have happened, folding stocks are also banned because, you know, not being able to actually hit something is bad. So is a pistol grip, because everyone knows that pistol grips are the reason why bad guys can scare people so much. So is a forward grip, because everyone knows that forward grips are so dangerous since it's another trigger that fires a 20mm autocannon! :p

Another big big problem is barrel shrouds. After all, it's the thing that goes up!

Meh, I like function. I think the M16 looks pretty intimidating. The FAL has the same look. It's all black.

What I don't like is the excessively long picatinny rails. But I suppose it would come in handy.

I'd like a RobArms XCR with flashlight, a laser, forward grip/bipod, and.. well I'd say something like a Aimpoint CompM4 would work. Or an EOTech.

HK 416s use gas piston operation too.

Looks like everyone's finally seeing its benefits vs. direct impingement. When applied to assault rifles at least.

Not a fan of the modern "covered in rails" look myself.
The bigger problem of the AR-15 is that it really needs a forward assist. Even with a piston system, it has to have a forward assist because of how the bolt works. The backpressure of the cartridge pushing against the bolt while it's trying to strip it creates resistance, which causes the bolt to try and twist because the cam pin can't. Thus jamming the bolt completely. A forward assist would solve that.

The HK 416 is quite good. There is no problem with it's system, mainly because they've been able to get away from the fact that it has to have standard parts, like a piston that can fit in the M4's gas tube. So it's good, but it still has the problems of any M16. Namely, the bolt not being very sturdy and the entire operation mechanism a bit weak. But it WORKS. It's great, because it manages to stuff a gas piston system into a M4 by switching uppers and switching out a buffer.

Even if all we need is just an optic, people are still going to somehow find a need for a billion square yards of rails on their guns.

Yeah, I could get an AR here, but I'll have to pay obscenely high prices to get one, and as you noted I've got to have the Monsterman grip if I want to have a removable mag. No matter what anyone tells you, the bullet button is NOT going to pass muster. If DOJ or the cops see you using it for reloading purposes, you're still going to get screwed.

I'm still pissed I had to give up my G3 when I moved to Kali. *grumble*

I believe that legally the police can't do that. The DOJ already said they have no problem with the Bullet Button.

If you want, you can get a Prince-50. It can be removed if you use tools to disassemble. To remove a mag you have to use a special tool that's included with the package.

And a bullet IS considered a tool. If you call up the DOJ enough to really clarify their position they should show you if a police officer can take you to court for having a bullet button.

www.calguns.net Is the place if you want to know if your EBR is Kali-Legal.
