Level Design Maxium map size?

Probably as large as the editor provides for on the grid.

However, the better question to ask is how large can it be before it isn't practical anymore.

Agreed. We could make humongous maps but.. if it's not a tank map then what's the point. Dying and then having to spend 30 minutes of walking only to get shot in the face.

To answer the question literally, 1 udk unit is equal to roughly .70 of an inch, assuming the default UDK player height is of average human height.

The map space is 500,000 units across, coming to 7.64 kilometers across. 7.64 x 7.64 is 58.36. So the maximum map space is 58 square kilometers, or 58 cubed kilometers if you also want to go really high :p

For HOS, 1uu = 2cm.

So its either 58km^2 or 10km^2? A pretty large discrepancy. Do either of you have a source so we can know for sure?

What?

It's either 10km across (if you were to walk from one end to the other in a straight line) or (10x10) 100 km^2.

I just provided the ^2 arbitrarily.. its not really important, as walking distance tends to factor into the perceived "size" of the map more than the area... at least from a gameplay standpoint
