I'm glad someone took the time to put this together.

Some people are convinced Tripwire has poor map design skills and simply don't realize the maps are based on real locations.

And they often look very, very similar. Both in scale and detail.

Those are great, nice to have them in a post. Someone should go to spectator mode when the beta is out and get those from in-game too!

Another small update friends

Station

I just realized that the famous "Barmaley Fountain" is behind the station in the map. I know that it was near a station, think that was on "another".
Not sure (I think yes) if the building at background is the station or is in the other direction.

Best part is that the red building in the other direction that is in the map is the "Museum of Defense of Tsaritsyn", actually very similar to how appears in the map (is in the station square, in front on the station):

That's not a playable zone but, wow +1 to the developers, the details are sick!!

I didn't know the fire-tower was modeled in game. I'll have to look for that. I know on the other end of the map, near the Russian spawn, there's a Western style church with big pointed arches and a tall pyramidal steeple, either Catholic or Protestant, but I don't have any real-life photographs to compare it with. I tried looking for it in modern Volgograd with GoogleEarth D) but couldn't find anything like it. I wonder if it was destroyed during the battle... or if the mapper made it up.

The fire-tower is lurking It was actually rebuilt in th 1980s. The church (German Lutheran) was destroyed in the battle and bull-dozed along with large tracts of the city.

[TW]Wilsonam I think that many RO players will love to some kind of "dev blog". Maybe not now when you're fixing bugs, etc but could be really nice if people read how did you research original maps and details of how did you made the battle of Stalingrad

Is it me, or are there "extra" offices/windows/floors attached to the left side of the grain elevator in game compaired to the period pics? I havent seen that "add on" in any WW2 period pics...only in pics post war.

No, you are not dreaming. Probably added for gameplay purpose.
A bit strange if you ask me though.
That extra "block" makes life for the defenders hell.
But in reality they managed to hold the elevator with just 50 men (which would be almost impossible with the added "block").
