After the deal, you'll probably end up paying over $100 like all the previous Windows.
Next windows is already coming in 6 months.. it's what Windows 8 was supposed to be, current win 8 was just an early release to compete on the mobile market.

I really wasn't trying to attack you personally. I am sure you have your reasons for not having upgraded. I was pointing out that one would expect to see better, or at least more reliable, improvement spending about the same money on a better video card. And that your test would probably have been more meaningful if it was carried out with a decent GPU.

I agree that it's a good value proposition in general. Although there is a slight chance that Windows 8 might fail, which would force MS to support Win 7 like they did XP when Vista failed.

Well I've worked in IT for over 20+ years and have used every version of Windows and currently working in a large Fortune 500 company doing server\desktop\ and all Windows support.

I too always have the latest and greatest regardless. I too must say Windows 8 is a great OS and too is every other latest Microsoft iteration of OS and Software meaning Server 2012, Exchange 2013, Office 2013 and so on.

I would constantly get BSOD in my Windows 7 machine but once I upgraded to Windows 8 I've yet to see one. I've been using it since the Preview days and do this with all known OS.

I would have to agree that Windows 8 has made all my gaming experiences better as well. My system is about 2 years old at this point. I really didn't have any issues with RO2 with Windows 7 and FPS even from the start.

Everything runs much smoother in Windows 8 IMHO... To each his own.

You'll have people who hate change whereas I never have and always can't wait for the next Microsoft release regardless of what it may be.

I can honestly say for 39.99 you can't go wrong PERIOD. Also do a CLEAN Install... Also one of the quickest installs and easiest. Just download the USB Windows 7 Tool, the ISO of Windows 8 and have an 8 Gig USB stick.

30 minutes later you'll be on Windows 8 Pro...

I've been using Windows 7 since the beta and have never once gotten a BSOD. I wonder what you were doing differently.

If Windows 8 was the same or worse than Windows 7, then I wouldn't have been able to increase my graphics and FPS with such games as Skyrim and RO2.

My Photoshop, Illustrator and Maya wouldn't be loading up almost twice as fast as before..... my system wouldn't be booting up and shutting down much faster than while using Vista or 7.

You rant on about how crappy Windows 8 is.... well I'm currently using it right at this very moment..... how long have you used it?

Have you used the Beta or the Full Retail Version? Or have you used it at all to know what you're talking about?
Your missing my whole point I am not comparing OS's.I'm comparing how PC runs games vs how consoles run them.Comparing the two and how they handle games atm all OS on pc is poorly designed to run games. Also yes I have made a full install of windows 8 and personally I couldn't tell much difference in the two.I just like the old PC interface better so I switched back. I am just old and stubborn and have earned that right

Again im not comparing current OS's I am looking at the big picture in the near future. PC gaming is NOT dead its just future consoles will run games more efficiently even on lesser hardware. Many advantages the pc has over consoles.A console couldn't even begin to run advanced spreadsheet's or editing software workstations etc. They was just not designed for this they was purely designed to run games. While PC is designed to run all the business type applications first.Gaming is almost an after thought in OS's.

My point being windows needs to fix the direct x's overhead problems if they want to compete with the next generation consoles. As of now no OS has done this they are making improvements but im afraid it will be too little too late.

Don't get me wrong I am NO console fanboy and am a PC gamer for life. I just dread seeing the day when PC developers struggle to make games equal to consoles.Even though the consoles will have weaker hardware its the OS's that will hinder PCs.

DICE BF3 developer had put a nice dia show about the OS limiting performance and how games would work so much better by bypassing the OS completely and having straight access to the hardware.
