I have a problem with lights building in SDK, my problem is simple, i can select any quality settings in the "buuild light" menu or nexto to the "build all" icon, but the final cooked map have really bad shadows, and no 'light ray" effects... I tried to reinstall wipe config, clean steam, try again, and again... but it is always the same result..
Here is a test map, with light in production, this is ugly 'and this is an ingame test with a cooked map, not inside the SDK): bad shadows http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=122446471 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=122446521 no light rays comming from the directional light (wherever you can look.. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=122446650 Another good example is my fun map before the 'workshop update': http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...s/?id=88118483 and after.... : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=115095960 The only thing I did was the satchel in the middle of the room... but first screens are taken with a fresh install of all (game and SDK) Do you know guys how to force high quality settings for light building, or do you know what is the problem or how can i have the SDK working good like before?? Thanks for all of you for your time. |

When you apply Material to BSP you can change its light map resolution by double clicking the mat. You'll get a pop up box with all the properties. just change the LMR default is 32. the lower the number the sharper the shadows. I usually set all mine to 8 and go from there. 2 is least you can go, also, keep in mind this will make your file size larger.
As for shadows on Terrain double click the terrain, the properties box will pop up. under "lighting" tab check the "Is overriding light resolution" box and change the value of "Static lighting resolution" the higher the number the more crisp. again this will increase your file size. 4 should be just fine. Now you wont see these changes in the editor because some futures are disabled in it. if you want to test your map, I'd suggest cook it and then try it in game.

Are those pictures in SDK or in actual game?

Thanks for the quick replies
I will try this as soon as I can. Yes all the screenshots are from within the game, on the cooked map.The weird thing is that i didn't touch any setting for the two last screenshots, just recooked after 'workshop update' and I had the shadow problem.. hum we'll see I'll check the settings on the second post. Thanks. EDIT: Tried to modify my settings: no result but after a few tests, I tried to copy the light from another map: succes on the test map, the cooked one have the good and sharp shadows I like and the light rays coming from the edges of walls and roofs... (I add the directional light whithin the editor by right clicking the middle of the map, add actor, DominantDirectionalLight, and i think this is the good way to add it ;\)I'm happy to solve my problem by copying again someone else's light :^\ Thank you all Last edited by ®omano; 01-23-2013 at 11:00 PM. |

I've had some screwy light things happening since the most recent update as well. I've spent hours over the last few days trying to get back the shadows on my map. After my most recent lighting re-build last night the shadows came back (and this is after making NO changes to the lighting settings in either the dominant directional light, terrain, or world info. settings.
Gotta' love the SDK
