I tried that telnet thing, but when I write "telnet speedtouch" or "telnet 192.168.1.254" it just say:
Either the router doesn't allow telnet access, or your router is on a different IP address / has a different name. If you open up a command prompt (start -> run or search -> type in "cmd" without the quotes and press return) and type ipconfig and hit return it should list your network cards and hopefully tell you what your router's IP address is - it will be under default gateway. Alternatively find it out through the network devices part of Windows. It will be something like 192.168.0.1 - so if it was, you would put in "telnet 192.168.0.1" (without quotes) and hopefully that would connect.ok, whenever I try the telnet speeedtouch thing, It ends up saying 'could not open connection to the host on port 23: connect failed.' this happens when I use the one with the numbers as well. I've lookeda microsoft support but it doesnt help, please someone help!
You should be able to tell because telnet should draw you a nice Thomson ascii logo I would imagine, and ask you for a router login and password.Still not working.I have a feeling I'm not connecting to my router, but I know when to give up. Thanks for helping though.
Do you get as far as the username and password part or does it say connection refused / a similar message? If you get to the username and password then you might be using the wrong one. Apparently for the 780 the default username is Administrator and the password is blank. If it is an ISP-branded / flashed one then they might have disabled telnet.Hello people,
I am having the same issue with a Thomson 780. Tried the masterserver file but that did not work. When I'm trying to login on my router via telnet, it says I'm not allowed to login. Blame the ISP (going to another one soon anyways, this one is the worst ever), or is there something else I can try?
I had this problem with TF2 too (for about 4 days now), and I tried about everything there is to find on the net about it, exept for that router rule :/
Thanks in advance,
Zandkip

Aside from blocking the destination UDP ports 27010-11, if that is even possible without (or with) telnet access, I'm not sure what else you can do. I've just re-tested the file replacement fix, and it looks like Steam defaults to one of the troublesome ports after a few seconds for some reason, so unless someone can bend Valve's ear we're not going to have any further luck with that.
