What does joining a clan entail?

Hey guys.

I'm a 26 year old gamer (and RO rookie) who's looking for a mature community that doesn't take itself too seriously.

The idea of a "clan," though, confuses me. It seems judging from the websites many clans have that you're pretty organized and dedicated. What exactly does a joining a clan entail?
