Hello, this is my first post. Please be civil
I'll preface this by saying I have never played Red Orchestra before, or really any game like it. So, I don't have any actual experience to back up any of these (minor) criticisms.
I first heard about the Red Orchestra series a couple weeks ago, and after some quick research and a few YouTube videos, I decided to pre-order. I went for the Deluxe edition hoping that a bit of a head start in terms of game experience (the beta) would help round off some of my inexperience. Although I understand that I will be crushed by veteran players for the first few weeks at least.
Anyways, I was looking through the RO2
feature list and a couple of the bullet points worry me slightly. While for the most part features and realism enhancements are great and very exciting, there are a few that I think will not add to the game, and instead will be novelties that are more annoying than interesting. For example, Environment Temperatures, which can be set by the mapper and influence tank round accuracy/velocity and weapon cool down. While this sounds very cool on paper, I think variables like this that change between games/maps will annoy players. Randomization, in my opinion, should be kept to a minimum so that players can focus on teamplay and other important aspects instead of taking ambient temperature into account when aiming their tank. The same is true with heat buildup in LMG barrels. Having this change between maps means less time shooting people and more time managing recourses.
A well balanced game is a fun game. I hope that Red Orchestra will not cross the line between a game, and a simulation, where realism takes precedence over balance and a 'trim' core gameplay experience.
That's all i can think of for now, hopefully the Beta will come soon and I can test my thoughts out instead of bouncing them around my head. See you all there! Thanks for reading!
