Default Prohibition Mod:

I got an idea from reading a few other ideas of mods for RO2, and I was wondering..... there have been a few mobster games in the past, and a few mods that never really got very far, but I think it'd be quite interesting to have a Prohibition Mod.

Such a mod could be very expansive and feature a number of game modes.

What I mean by that is that for a few years Prohibition expanded through the United States & Canada and made the black market trade and organized crime sky rocket. Canada dropped their prohibition laws before the US did and eventually heavy alcohol smuggling from Canada to the US (Rum Running) became a major concern for US law enforcement. Prior to this, much of the US's import of alcohol came from the Bahamas. The Prohibition Era spanned from the 1920's to the early 1930's.

Some of the game modes that could be included could be the smugglers trying to get their "goods" across the Canadian/US border while the police try and capture it or toake out all of the smugglers.

Another mode could be by boat, trying to get to shore with the "goods" while law enforcement tries to stop them.

Another mode could be a raid, where the smugglers have to defend a location, usually their place of business or warehouse, from a police raid. The police would have to take out (or arrest) all of the smugglers, or the smugglers have to take out all of the police or hold out for a period of time until they have a chance to escape in get-away cars that take a period of time to arrive.

With much of RO2 features, I think this could make for an interesting game. There could also be a progression feature included, where police move up in rank & status to Police Chief or something like that and smugglers move up in reputation and status to Don in their family's organization..... while the further you move up, the more weapons and equipment becomes available to you.

I'm sure there's a pile of game types people could think of, as well as maps... downtown Chicago, the US/Canadian Border, the Great Lakes, Florida Coastline, British Columbia/Washington border, Nova Scotia to Maine, New York, etc. etc.... You could even have a few spots within Canada during it's prohibition, or after the prohibition with Canadian Law enforcement.

Thoughts?

Personally, I think it's a fun idea! Have some modern urban areas with mayhem in the streets, alleys, and neighborhoods.

However, I think a gang wars mod would be a bit cooler, cause you can actually have a campaign with territories over cities and all. With raggedy weapons and urban areas.

Well I don't see why you couldn't add that as a game mode. It could function very much like RO's current objective capturing game mode.... only instead of ammo & radio stations, you take over city blocks and those people come under your "Protection" ~ Police don't show up in the maps/gameplay because both sides bought them out to "Be somewhere else" during this feud

Instead of people making clans, they could make families or organizations... I think it'd be pretty involving.

One could even add some additional side-features like making incentives for a player to leave their family or the police force for another family, or provide information to the police or other families, leave back doors unlocked, sabotage the supplies or ammo/weapons.... then make it so the rest of the team has to figure out who's the rat/mole & make an "Example" out of them for additional rep points, which could also work for the police as well, with corrupt officers..... and if you get away with your sabotage against your team, you get the bonuses and you get extra points for not getting caught.

Though I don't know how well that'd work. It'd have to be a very loose take on the Team Fortress Spy, only you spawn with the enemy team and have been with them for a while.

Much of the background corruption and dealing with police or other families could work outside of the actual game play, say in the game menu before you join a server, that provides a chat/mail section where you can check messages from other players/families sending you bonuses or money for new weapons/rep if you agree to do something for them..... something you'd check before or after a match.

^ It sounds kind of complex and details, but I think it's possible to do.

And it did cross my mind that some countries might have an issue with it "Promoting violence against peace officers and promoting criminality" But since Counter-Strike does the same thing with Terrorists, I don't see a big issue.

Added:

One other thing I thought of, was that for the above idea of the gang wars game mode, you could add in a third team for the police just to make it really heated. I know in Team Fortress Classic, there were a few maps that had 3-4 other teams playing at once, so it's possible.

One Mob team tries to take over blocks, the other does the same and the police try and take out both to maintain order...... so each team has two other teams to focus on.

The whole 'City campaign' idea is kind of interesting. My preference for era and setting for a mod like this would be 30's America, like in the original Mafia.

Couple of ideas for the 'City campaign' mode:

Different capturable objectives do different things e.g. one would spawn vehicles, one would produce money, one would be a gun shop. (Maybe also seperate independent weapon shops that sell different weapons)

the police team: They would have fewer players than the gangs (2-3 players) and would mostly be made up of AI, with one player able to control them from an RTS style view (kind of like 'Iron grip' if anyone remembers that mod) and could be bribed into either ignoring fighting in an area, or raiding an area. (Don't know how complex AI can be in RO2's multiplayer, but if they could patrol, give chase on foot and in cars/ react to hearing gunfire, it'd be amazing)

cars with multiple firing positions would be a must in a mod like this e.g. driver can shoot out of window with a handgun, passengers can use longarms.

Seeing as there wouldn't be any tanks/artillery, bombs could be bought from weapon shops as an expensive specialist item, and due to less building destruction there should be more of an onus on destroyable objects/cover inside buildings.

Well with changes to personal life and all, I doubt I'm going to have much free time to do much for a mod. Perhaps when I think about it, I'll whip up a few models in my spare time, but I figured I'd just note this idea here so I won't forget, lol.

But additional ideas or action taken on the idea, and other's ideas in here as well, by all means, I think it could be a pretty good hit and go for it, cuz I know I'd play, and you'd pretty well have a monopoly on that genre of FPS, with little competition.

And now that I'm living in Australia, I know of a bit of Aussie history of that time, which could be an expansion, or other countries if people have stories or ideas to make maps, it would probably be only minor modifications to some models anyways..... perhaps different types of weapons added.

Yakuza anyone? (I spelled that right, didn't I?)
