Default RO2 Anti-cheat

For those not already aware, we are also very excited to announce the selection of PunkBuster™ Anti-Cheat software and PBBans streaming ban support for the game, in addition to using Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC). "With the selection of PunkBuster and PBBans in addition to VAC we're taking a three pronged approach to cheat protection for Red Orchestra 2," said John Gibson, Tripwire Interactive President. "We hope this sends a strong message to gamers that we take cheating very seriously and are tackling it head on BEFORE the game ships."

Well done Tripwire!

Feels weird to finally see a company that actually cares about their customers after the initial sale. Weird but great!

Never had a problem with PB apart from having to update for ETQW once and only once.

let me understand, we can use any of the three systems in any servers or it's the server that choose which one to use?

The server will set any if not all of of the anti cheats available. Players are able to filter by what is in use in the server browser.

hmm PB used to give me a hard time with BFBC2 a lot, and with my friends

I'll blame EA for implementing it poorly I'm sure you guys won't let garbage be released like what BFBC2 was at launch

Great to hear about the addition of PB's active cheat scanning software being implemented. While PB is by no means flawless, and a pain the *** sometimes for legit players, I still prefer it to VACs silent approach. "Lets catch cheaters but let them play among legit players for months on end with the same hack".

Will be great to see RO finally get the cheat protection it deserves. VAC wasn't even enabled in RO1 from what I could tell.

Now all they need to announce is when the game is going on sale...

Plus three anti cheat systems, time to cross our fingers and hope the anti cheat systems don't try to take over Russia/Germany.

Hopefully this version of Punkbuster will be decent. No issues with it in BFBC2 but I have issues with it in BF2 and Crysis Wars. For whatever reason I have a PB process running in the background. I will figure out what it is and disable it. I really would hope that it is not needed to run 24/7 on your system in order to work for RO2. I strongly disapprove of extra processes running in the background.

PB has 2 services are running the background at all times: PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB. Typically if you get issues with stupid kick messages such as "Packet loss" or "Service commnunication failures" you can restart the services and connect to a server. I have these issues with PB all the time America's Army 3. It sucks having legit players suffer while cheaters seem to have no issues with it, but it does narrow the cheating population down to only skilled programmers witch is great. Without an active cheat protection(that actually kicks a player out of the server when detected) anybody could just throw together a simple D3D wallhack and with no programming knowlede at all. I am willing to have PB running to prevent that, especially in a game like RO.

Ramm mentioned in the TS chat on competitive gaming, there will be 4 levels of PB. Off, low, medium, and high. It'll be up to the server to set which one they'll use, so I'm sure you can always find a server running which ever you want to play with.

He mentioned the high level will be aimed at clan matches, where money might be on the line. That'll be more intrusive.

I'd expect most servers to run low or medium.
