Most mulitplayer Steam games require the internet.

To be a LAN game, they must play without internet access.

LAN = Local Area Network
Internet = International Network
Intranet = Local Area Network with Internet access.
Ahhh, another noise post.

How about answering the question posed, and not giving us all a brilliant glimpse of the obvious? We all understand network terminology, I'm quite sure.

Are you perhaps so blinded by your seething, misplaced hate for steam that you do not understand it has an offline mode, no WAN / STEAM access is required?

I took you off my ignore list, hoping you'd received enough feedback to post something useful. Don't make me regret the decision: answer the question.

Name one game sold on steam that supports LAN play that cannot be played in such a mode without a connection to steam (i.e. offline steam mode.)

All Steam games that support LAN can be played in offline mode. Obviously.
Most Steam games, unfortunately, do not support LAN play.

Almost all Steam required games only present the option to connect to other games via the internet.

Hence why people who look for LAN gaming typically avoid Steam.

For the record, I think rude trolling from the community is more likely to "turn noobs away" from this game than frank discussion of the availability/the importance they place, on specific features that they look for in a title.

If you are simply unable to reply to my comments without continual attempted insult, then by all means please continue to ignore me. I would prefer that.

As a little update to this one, cf Il2 Wings over Dover, it's out today.
You can connect to other computers either through Steam or independantly, by popular demand... Steam is not required.
Shogun 2, needs Steam to be run in offline mode and works over LAN.

As is true for most PC games, steam or not. Straw man...

No, they avoid games that don't support LAN play. That has nothing to do with steam.

Pity, you actually edited you first troll post into a reasoned response, then felt the need to edit it back to borderline trolling.

Seriously, you've made it clear you're not supporting the game because of the tragic choice of steam.

Why are you even posting here then?

TWI has chosen steam, there are no plans to change that. No one is forcing you, or anyone else, to buy the game. State your case (done already over and over and over...) and vote with your wallet.

No need to troll forums for a game you do not plan to buy/play/support.

Again, if you need help figuring out steam, the valve/steam forum is the appropriate place to go.

Not being someone who buys games for LAN purposes I don't expect those of us who do really value your insights into why "we don't avoid Steam" after we have made it clear to you that we do and even taken the time to explain our reasoning behind this to you.

I think if you bothered to read the posts in this thread made by people who actually do and have reason to care about this subject, you might wish to learn from them instead of just trolling them because you feel somehow personally threatened or slighted by their opinions.

I understand that you are unable to find anything positive in gamers expressing their preference on a forum dedicated to that purpose if it differs from your own perspective, but that in no way diminshes the strength of our opinions or the usefulness to the developers of us raising a potential issue we share with this game so that they may be alerted to it.

I'm sure it is the hope and intention of all those that have chosen to express our preferences for this game that our concerns be given some consideration. That this information be used constructively and positively by those people with the power to shape it's development.

If you don't feel the same as us, by all means share that opinion with us and if you feel so inclined, elaborate to us why.

No need to incessantly troll when you can instead contribute.

Glad to hear it, I'll put this down to lots of mis-information on what steam is required for, like this information here which says the exact opposite

No one that I know has ever had a problem with Steam. Although , if there is one, I never realized that there was such a large LAN community out there.

at the very least, it lets you play at large-scale lans without incurring the wrath of a VAC ban because someone brought their hax alongside their porn to distribute to everyone :P
