I'm sick of games and programs making folders and saving stuff in "Documents and Settings". I don't understand the logic behind this BS, but ends up filling the computer with crap. I mean, why do they do that?
Anyway, just put all the game files in the same folder, as it should be.

it's on steam so will probably end up saving into the unfathomable mists of time.

You would be surprised of how many games on Steam save **** in "Documents and Settings"

In vista/7 there are no "Documents and Settings", there are "Users"

I dunno, it makes it easier to find .cfg files and it keeps your saves in a safe place away from the main install folder.
Doesn't bother me any |

Also... safe place?, when something breaks, it uses to be the OS partition, if you have to format, the saves, config, screens, etc... are precisely what you lose. Can't count how many stuff I lost because its stored in obscure folders within D&S |

Actually, there is, but they seem to have splited it up putting some stuff in users instead or something.

Games might be doing that because not all people are running everything as admin and the user account might not be allowed to write into the game's install directory.

Don't know maybe one day we will be able to do away with the registry.... in another ten years.

Well if you run win7 it is actually quite nice that most games save in the Games directory of your control files.
But for backup purposes it would be nice if RO could use steam cloud to safe config files and the actual game itself.

Yeah, my HD just took a poop, and I had to reinstall everything. I've got all my data backed up weekly, so that wasn't an issue.
It was the settings for all my applications and games that I lost, if they WERE NOT in the Users folder. So I hope it does go in there. Maybe have a separate "My Saved Games (and settings)" under Users.

Knew someone would bring up Macs.
They too drop files in different folders.

LOL, no they don't. Some games save it in their own folders, some in documents, some in games some in Appdata which is hidden by default...

But if Steam does... whats the problem?

I don't know. I am just guessing. Maybe you have to put the user configuration files there if you want a Games for Windows sticker because it is the Windows way?
Why are Chrome's binaries in the User folders? I guess for easy updating, because the owning user has full access. Just guessing. |

And easier because it's where most games are putting their config and ini files now. Less fishing around. At least for me. |
