in fact advanced weather effects are possible in Unreal engine 3

Features:

Quote:
Special Effects Environment Mapping, Lens Flares, Billboarding, Particle System, Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Sky, Water, Fire, Explosion, Decals, Fog, Weather, Mirror: • Volumetric environmental effects including height fog and physically accurate distance fog.
source: http://www.devmaster.net/engines/eng...ails.php?id=25

actually that list is impressive. I hope TWI use as many as possible features.

Sure and we could add many more. The question is if we really need/want them.

Just because we CAN add a certain feature does not mean we have to add it .

Of course we need this! It still makes the game more realistic and atmospheric!

Not only on scopes/tanksights! On all other objects to! I think for the engine that is not a problem...

I like weather effects, but having dynamically changing weather effects is not something I find important.

I'd like to see in RO:HoS weather changes effects from Unreal Tournament 3 and Unreal Egine3s mods.

Skip to 4:00 and turn volume to 0, sandstorm in UT3, dynamically changing effect.

YouTube - LightmassUT3

or here

YouTube - Viper Trick - vCTF Sandstorm (UT3)

1:30

Such things like snow storm, heavy rain etc might be great in RO:HoS.

Don't get me wrong i would absolutely love to see it, I just don't know how much work it is. So its hard for me to say whether or not it would be worth it for me.

My only problem with pushing state-of-the-art graphics is that the game will undoubtedly need to appeal to a wide range of hardware. While I generally enjoy and have the priviledge of playing with full effects on, many purposely play with as few special effects as possible so they may have every advantage possible. That is why in many fps games, clans used to impose fps caps and played with virtually no visual effects (smoke, etc) in clan matches. Having the ability to have that disparity in a public competitive online game, in my experience, has almost always led to a disgruntled faction of the playing populace and often a division among the player base.

It wasn't a huge problem in ROOST. In large part, I think that could be contributed to the limited options available to tweak and the "different" player base attracted to ROOST (as opposed to the very large and broad base of the more generic crosshaired, speed junky, matchbox playing player base of other fps games)

At the very least I'd suggest little splatters on horizontal surfaces, instead of the rain drops just disappearing. Also the aforementioned soundeffect for rain on your helmet. Maybe if your model is wearing a fur hat it can go "plat plat plat" instead of "tink tink tink"
