Default Unreal Engine 3 looks terrible. Please improve.

Please, improve the lighting and character models please. The Unreal Engine 3's texturing is filth, shiny textures are used as a sorry excuse for bump mapping, and in RO:HOS's case, the character models look absolutely rubbish.

Seen here, the building and character uniforms are...sadly...****e. Low resolution and low quality:http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp...s/mg_final.jpg

Perhaps Tripwire should stick to UE2.5, the graphics are much more appealing than what has been shown so far [not very much, but nontheless dissapointing].

In some screenshots the player models look like they have been lazily photoshopped into the shot. Their colours do not match the environment surrounding them. Also included in this shot, are some green cereal bowls which seem to be photoshopped on top of the 'cut-and-paste' character models: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp...s/mg_final.jpg

In addition to this, the faces of the player models have a 'plastic' look to them: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp...t_Tactical.jpg & http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp...nShot00136.jpg

They look much worse than those in the original RO:41-45. Please improve on these faces, I'd prefer the player models to represent human-beings, not action figures. Although I will admit the face behing the player in the foreground looks 200% better. However, the same issue is seen here, in addition to the low quality uniforms and bodies: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp...aincoverv2.jpg

Upon looking at the above screenshot, you can also see UE3's 'next gen bump mapping' in action. Honestly...way to go UE3, those textures are looking mighty fine as usual:http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/1...1215358388.jpg

As it stands, I am deeply dissapointed with the direction in which Tripwire is taking this game's visuals. Not all are terrible, some of the screenshots are great, especially this one: http://www.heroesofstalingrad.com/wp...top_battle.jpg

However, as stated above, there are many issues. The character models look as though they are out of place, or 'photoshopped' into the screenshots and the faces...if those are the way the faces will be looking, I'm going to be praying for a balaclava mod. The textures...oh man, UE3 is notorius for terrible textures and the ridiculous SHINY 'everything'. Yes, if all gameplay elements promised are delivered it will make an amazing game. However, a rule I live by will apply here; no matter how nice a girl is, if she looks like a baboon's arse, you can be sure I won't be humping her. Graphics DO matter. They enhance the immersion and entire experience.

I dont see the low quality textures you are talking about, look at the boot, you can clearly see its leather texture. The same with the fabric, sandbags and marble wall.

And Im not sure how the color of a human and its clothes is suppose to match the environment unless it is camo you are talking about.
The colors of the uniforms are the correct colors that was worn.

And can you say what the diffirence is between the last and first pic?
They are both using the same sized textures.

Not trying to put your opinion down, but I dont see the problems you are seeing. Offcourse its not going to be like real life, but the graphics are up there among the newer games.

Over analyzing the visuals from ALPHA builds of games will never get old. Never.

Obvious troll.

UE3 looks very good and, get this, can still be played on average computers. Can't say that about the overrated "graphic benchmark on steroids" Crysis.

Be glad that TWI has the integrity and honesty not to upload highly Photoshopped screenshots, or make the graphics so demanding that the game can only be played on a NASA computer.

Cause we all know that graphic is the most important part of a game, right?

No, I believe my good buddy Zekk here is highlighting the use of the word bump mapping for a reason

Haven't you heard Zekk? The newest version of vBulletin supports bump mapping. You should upgrade, srsly. You don't want our forums to look outdated!

I'm personally not to worried or focused on how the game looks to be honest, I am more interested in game-play. That being said, I was quite impressed with how Brothers in Arms Hells Highway looked, which, correct me if I am wrong, was built with the U3 engine.

There's nothing abnormal about the texture maps.

I agree BIA:HH looked fantastic. Especially the sections where it was raining, I have not seen a game do it better.

It's not the engine itself that makes things look good, it's the artists working on the game. I think TW has good art direction after looking at there latest maps; Danzig & Lyeskrovy (KF doesn't count ). I'm excited to see what they can do with UE3.

Good post b00n, except you're a little early to the scene. There's no reason to be complaining about anything so early in the development cycle.

too right! I was wondering if anybody was gonna catch that. And seriously...the screens I have seen are making my jaw drop. If I don't like the bloom I can turn it off myself I assume....and this game has many of us at Texas Militia totally drooling.

Zets, the next time you say UE3.5 or type UE3.5 you are fired.

IT IS UE3

And yes, global illumination is cool.
