Well, like most people here I have been playing FPSs for a long time. I guess I am finally getting ready to settle down and game with a good core group of guys. While being that awesome solo player is fun it really isn't as satisfying as helping your team out. So I'm trying to find a good clan to fight and die beside. But I have a noobyish question to ask first.
I've noticed a lot of clans have realistic names and some of them call themselves "realism" clans. I was just curious what this actually means in gameplay terms? I would love to join a mature group and a realistic clan sounds rather interesting. But I'm hesitant about those clans that have a Russian or German unit name, will they only play that side of the war and never the other side? Are there any other aspects gameplay wise that would change because a player is in a realistic clan? Just curious, thanks everyone. |

My unit is a pure German unit, im not German decent but i help run a german unit. Realsim is using tatics, assigned weapons, ranks and such. Thoses people who do that im going to be German this round and then Russian next round arnt playing realism. They are just a cheap knock off. The unit that i am in has been in realsim for 5-6 years. So we know our stuff. Here is our basic information
We are looking for Canadain or American Citizens age 15+ Unit:The 18th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division. Web Site: http://www.18thss.dodart.net/ My X fire: sgtfraser Type of Game Play: Tatical Realism Servers: Ventrillo for members, and RO server when it comes out i have a russian tag on.. i will be getting that fixed verry soon. But i am in a german unit. Last edited by Fraizinger; 03-12-2006 at 02:51 AM. |

I won't advertise... but the difference is you can be sure a realism squad will use authentic ranks/insignia, small-unit structure, real world tactics, voice communication, and the maximization of team work and efficiency. These things are present in clans that don't consider themselves 'realism' so I think the biggest difference would have to be the fact that realism squads choose a side and play it whenever possible. Another subtle feature of units focused on realism is an atmosphere of 'roleplaying' in a meager sense where the simulation of WW2 combat in this atmosphere is sort of considered a virtual reenactment event.

I myself prefer "non-realism" teams. We don't have a preferred or even exclusive side to play on, and especially clanwars tend to be more challenging, as you need twice as many tactics and counter-tactics to succeed than clans which are only playing one side. Also, in normal team matches people rarely complain when one team choses a map which favours one side or the other, as you play both sides anyway. SOme even use it as a tactic to chose such a map for a CW so they get to win a round more easily, if they are up to scrim a "better" clan.

My clan has a historical name but we are most definately not a realism clan, its just a name.

clans are good for getting the guys together, but it's gotta be about the fun in the end. IMO, anyways.
