hi. sometimes when i subtract a cube and add a zone info actor, choose a texture, etc., i get the terrain but it does not go across the entire cube in either width or breadth. it seems sort of in the middle. also, sometimes the "select" and terrain generator will not function, and yet the "painting" brush does when i am editing a height map. how can i remedy that? and, how can i make sure that the terrain extends across the entire width and breadth of the cube? any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Joe,
Terrain size in the cube is based on the product of terrain Heightmap size (for example 512 x 512 or 256 x 256 (must be square, and power of 2)), and the TerrainScale. Raising the x,y,z, here will make a larger terrain in the cube, and lowering it will make a smaller terrain. Since you've already subtracted your cube, in the Top view in editor alt-shift Left Mouse Button -- drag across your cube to measure it. Write the number down and open your calculator. Divide the UU measurement of your cube by the pixel size of your heightmap. In TerrainInfo Properties, TerrainInfo, TerrainScale enter the result in the x and y fields. Example: ... The real-world battlefield that I'm modeling is 1854 meters by 1854 meters. My terrain heightmap is 512 pixels square. Dividing 1854 m by 512 pixels, we see that each pixel on my heightmap represents 3.62 meters in the real world. ... RO to real world scale: 1 meter real world = 60.352 UU Multiply 1854m by 60.352UU = 111923.2 UU Divide 111923.2 UU by 512px = 218.600006 Your subtracted cube should be slightly larger than the terrain. When you open your red cube brush, enter 512*218.60006 in the x and y fields (actually you should add a little so its larger than the terrain). ... x 218.600006 y 218.600006 z 8 |
