Default new to this mod/game have some ?'s

Hello, I have been following this mod/game alot closer since I saw it was going to be a full game. I briefly checked it out about a year or so ago but since I dont own the unreal games I did not get a chance to play it. Everything I see looks to be very well done and I hear it is a realism mod and not run n gun like cod/cod2 is (thank goodness).

Right so my questions are
1. Do you have to own unreal to play this when the new version comes out?
2. Will there be server support for admin mods such as mani mod etc?
3. How is the network code with vehicles etc, I found battlefield vehicle code to be very well done however the infantry combat leaves much to be desired. Hopefully both work well here.

I plan on checking this game out when it releases as my growing frustrations with how they nerfed everything I loved in day of defeat/source are to the point where I no longer enjoy playing it at all (almost). I am hoping this game is something I can cling to for some time and that its as good as it looks. Apologies if these questions are answered elsewhere but after some searching I did not find them already posted. Thanks in advance.

1. The "new version" is actually a complete new Game, and no longer a Mod, avaible through Steam. And no you won't need Unreal for it.
2. and 3. is something i'm not knowledgable enpough to answer

But i guess there are enough people wiser then me

2. The dedicated server do allow for plugins and mods.

3. The netcode for infantry combat is very good, i live in norway, and i have been able to play (aim and shoot accurately) at servers all over europe, with ping sometimes close to 100.

The mod had some issues with combined arms levels, but hopefully things will be more streamlined in the retail game.

As stated by DEVs and Beta Testers the Netcode has improved considerably, so that it now runs smoother then before (even with Vehicles).

What Witzig says! ^^

However, yes the Battlefield series netcode was good enough for vehicles, but it still remains to be the most suckiest netcode ever.

They have somewhat improved it from version 1.2 to 1.61b but it's still sucky, you'll need a ping lower than 32 in order to play it smoothly.

You might notice this when you plane stops shaking...

And you won't have to be afraid you need any Unreal-game.
It's just like ... as if Unreal is in the game itself. (n00bmode )
But it uses an improved engine so it looks like it's a mod for UT2005½. But in fact Ostfront it a game itself now!

I only have UT2k3 on my other computer and I play once in a while.
(Doesn't work on my gaming rig, but then again... it's outdated by 5-6 years now! )

When I wanna play Combined Arms I'll do that when I visit my friends!

Let me answer these for ya

1) No you do not need Unreal in any version, this is a stand alone game that you will purchase by itself.

2) The Engine we use (Unreal Engine 2.5) has great support for mods and mutators both of the admin kind and the kind that completly change the game and we will be keeping that support. Interested parties should be able to port several of these over from UT2k4 with a little effort, or make completly new ones.

3) The infantry netcode of RO has always been good, and with RO:Ostfront we have made sure that everything runs great. Our test server runs with a full tank load or infantry load or combined arms without having problems. The key is finding your servers "sweet" spot on player count, but it should be the same for both infantry and tank maps.

I hope you enjoy Red Orchestra, and look forward to seeing you in game.

Alot of people seems to get confused with the whole mod/retail difference, so, Just to clarify, you wont need Unreal, and it wont help you either, as in you will NOT get RO:O for free or cheaper or anything if you already have Unreal, just like you wont get "Splinter Cell" (or any other unrealengine game.. )any cheaper...

The same goes for any other games, like the ones on steam... there is no connection to HL, HL2 , CS, DOD etc.

If you want RO:O, just buy RO:O, like you would with any game..
