Ruger also makes a Mini-30 for fans of 7.62 x 39

Don't know what the problem is/was, but there were 3 or so SU16's at the tactical shoot I was at, and they all had horrible feed problems. Either extract and not pick up the next round, or not extract or pick up... The organizer of the shoot was using one that had that problem, and he said he'd brought it because of the LAST shoot where everybody using one had feed problems.

I'd been thinking "yeah, one of those could be cool" up until that point...

That's good to know. Looks like some flavor of AR will be my only choice then.

OTOH, I have been known to go into a gunshow with the intention of buying one thing and walking out with something completely different.

That's the cool thing about gun shows in that you never know what you will find. The whole place is 90% impulse buy.

The important thing is to set your budget and stick with it (yeah, right)...

And leave the credit/debit cards at home. :P

OK, Leupold Scope and ARMS accessories are now attached. I took it to the range and it's lovely, although I did order a 4 lb. trigger and trigger job. 7lb. is waaaay too much for me, plus I want it crisp and smooth as a babies arse.

Holds 1/4" groups at 50 yards no problem. I have to shoot more to do better, its been a while.

I will post picage later.

That's absolutely bizarre. I hear the things are super-reliable.

Were they using Remington 45gr hollowpoints, perchance?

Right now just cheapo Cabelas bulk. I am researching match ammo for future use, but I am not there yet, still waiting for my new trigger to show up at the gunsmith. (triggerjob, yea)...

Got any recommendations?

I buy ammo in bulk from The Sportsmans Guide webbie, for the M-16 series of rifles I have heard that the 62 grain steel core pennetrator rounds are the most accurate. More commonly known as armor piercing rounds. They were available from forementioned webbie, though they are not cheap. Most of the time I shoot Federal FMJ boat tail rounds, last time I checked a case of 1000 was like $99.00...like 2 years ago.

Didn't ask. I suppose I could next time.

It looked a lot like the rifles just weren't extracting. And there were several people shooting them, all having the same problem.. The odds of them all shooting the same ammo...?

I also got a new AR. Adding that to my list i now have hmmmm 9 guns most of them are for hunting. btw I like the .223 better that the 7.62x39 (ak-47/aks) more accurate. When ever i want to blow something up i'll just use my CZ 550 Safari .375 H&H Mag also known as 602 Brno.

hey, what barrel twist does that have? The scope looks to big for the rifle itself. I'd rather get an aimpoint or eotech for that. Also, is that a middy gas system? It better be.

1:9 Twist Chrome lined 16" free-floating. Yes scope has nitrogen gas.

Eotech does not have the tactical mil-dot system, nor will reach out near as far as this, however once I purchase my 7.62mm H&S Precision rifle, I will take that scope and transplant it, then add an eotech to the AR.

Pretty low, admittedly. Thing is, what are the odds of three (four?) people having the same problem with all of their guns? Like I said, the SU16 is known for being reliable, not finicky (except with short hollowpoints).

Hmm, well maybe I'll shoot an email to one of the SU16 shooters. Or I'll just wait till next month for the next shoot to find out.

Or maybe they're forced to sell crappy, unreliable rifles to us in the PRK... Who knows? :P
