They are coming. I can hear the distant sound of banjo music and pork rind chomping. It was only a matter of time before it happened... Killing Floor has been overrun by redneck zombies!!! Yep, it is that time of year once again: Halloween. And, here at Tripwire Interactive, we can't have Halloween without a barrel of fun for Killing Floor. So we're happier than a pig in slop to bring you the brand new Hillbilly Horrors event, which starts on the 23rd October and runs through to 6th November. With a big ol' sale to go along - 75% off Killing Floor and 50% off all DLC for the duration of the event. So listen up y'all! Down yonder is the all new Hillbilly Horrors map - a redneck homestead complete with cars on blocks, junk laying everywhere, hidden secrets, and populated, of course, by bloodthirsty zombie hillbillies. And if that don't beat all there are 15 new achievements, 6 of them for the duration of the event only, that give you the ability to unlock the Grim Reaper himself to play as. You'll be as happy as a tornado in a trailer park when you get your hands on the four new weapons we've cooked up for you - the MKb42(h) assault rifle (a favorite of many heroes in the battle of Stalingrad), a WWII trench shotgun firing incendiary rounds, the Vlad 9000 nail gun that'll nail the heads of the zombies to the barn door and a new specialist grenade for the Medic that will heal your teammates and poison those pesky zombie critters. That crazy guy in a chicken suit is also back this year as character DLC but with a twist - he's now a cyborg chicken affectionately known as The Chickenator. Now lets all simmer down for a moment to talk about an extra piece that we are real excited about. We've always supported the community's efforts to create mods, maps, monsters and anything else for our games. In the past, the only way we've been able to reward people for their modding efforts was by running mapping and modding contests with prizes. Now, for the first time, we are giving modders the opportunity to earn cash directly from their work. The brand new Community Weapons Pack from the IJC modding team will be available as DLC, with money going to the crew that created it. It is our hope that this opens the door to a whole new relationship with the community. One in which we're able to expand the new Killing Floor Steam Workshop so that the players have far more control of what makes it into the game AND we can reward the best community content makers directly. This first community weapon pack contains:

Cool!
Thank you! How will work the weapon pack DLC? Only people who bought it will be able to buy it at the trader? |

Nice update.
I assume you'll just purchase it via Steam/Steam Workshop, same way you'd purchase stuff for TF2? |

as much as i love you guys, paid DLC for a weapon pack is pretty lame, unless they are completely aesthetic changes to current weapons, which it does not seem like. if this is going to pave the way for future DLC packs, then i do not like it one bit.

I think it's fine, the money is going to the modders and we all get new weapons anyways, why not give back to the modding community? Besides, it's probably going to be cheap as hell, it's not like it's a 20$ CoD weapon pack that's gonna be OP.

In Wilsonam's post, it says
"With a big ol' sale to go along - 75% off Killing Floor and 50% off all DLC for the duration of the event." Maybe we get em discounted during the event? (Probably not but trying to look on bright side) |

I do not like this. I've played Killing Floor for two years now, and I liked it because DLC was relegated to cosmetic items only.
The way this sounds, you're going to have the community do your work for you, then charge other community members to use their mods. You'll start with weapons, which is bad enough, then move onto maps which will just splinter the player base. And it's quite obvious this is the path you intend to take. I am wholly opposed to paid DLC weapons and maps in FPS multiplayer games. If you want to pay the modders, then by all means, do so. But don't splinter the community into paying and nonpaying players who can't access gameplay content because they didn't want to purchase something. I liked TWI, but they've been making bad decisions since last Christmas. It took forever to get weapon bugs fixed that cropped up then (weapon weights, negative carrying capacity abuse, etc). Then the IJC pack that was brought in recently has serious imbalances that took months to fix. I feel TWI is getting lazy, just slapping stuff into their games without testing. Now you're going to start charging for gameplay content, and that's really the last thing I'll put up with. |

Thanks for the update! I really do appreciate that you'll make these events every year! Thank you!!!
Btw, video in the news is for the previous Summer Event. I just updated kf, but it did not pick up the latest update yet. I guess it's coming up pretty soon? |

sigh. i wished IJC stayed as an extra pack instead of becoming official. KF had better not turn into a 'pay2win' game. especially with the horrible balancing of the last weapon pack, how will this new batch turn out?
it feels like TWI is moving away from their original model of charging only for cosmetic things, even though the profits are going to the mod team, its still charging for content, not aesthetic changes the IJC team should just have a Paypal donate button on their site, if they have one and that can be linked from in-game or from the devs ![]() ![]()

Paying for weapons is a bad idea. Skins are one thing, they're just visuals, but selling new weapons is just...don't. Please.

I doubt these optional weapons are going to cost the Earth. I think it's a really good way for modders who spend a ton of time developing content for the game to finally receive some recognition.
IJC also has a website to manage, which also costs money and I'm sure they'd like to buy some imported moonshine to celebrate their achievements. TW obviously recognise the guys' talents by teaming up with them. Again, all the DLC weapons are totally optional, nobody is forcing you to buy them. Steam Workshop works great and extends the life of games. It's in no way a bad thing. Just look at TF2, it has some stellar user created items. |
