Hero weapons must be glorious like domanation. Like fire gun or throw sword to make enemies fear. That way, heroes would live up to name and be heroes, and have hero battles in center were all shall look upon and say "I need to run from weapons, but I must watch this battle!" And be friends with enemies until one side wins and all go back to killing.

I can't help but wonder if there will be an "mkb" in RS, meaning a gun that you're just like "why are you even playing this game" lol regardless of which weapons they use I am wondering how they are going to balance everything considering that Jap weapons by comparison were downright awful.. I've used an Arisaka before and it's an unpleasant experience to say the least
either way RS will hopefully be tons of fun though, I'm really looking forward to the tac experience

If it's a 'last-ditch' rifle, made in the last year or so of the war then I can imagine it would be a real clunker.

Personally I don't think this very question is relevant at the moment. What's really relevant is whenever highly decorated soldiers in WW2 actually gained 'special' weapons for their achievements. I do not have any solid evidence to neither prove or disprove this, and to be honest I have no real clue either but it do sounds very unlikely.
If the answer is yes, however, then the other question would be: How common was it? What type of weapons were given during the Pacific campaign 1941-45? What was the exact requirements to gain each particular weapon? These are the relevant questions to answer first before we even consider to answer the question what type of weapons there should be for heroes. If not, the we can add Katana as one person suggested, or why not some exprimental Stürm Jetpack with 2 mounted MG42s and automatic panzerfausts. |

As for the Japanese and Americans, I've never explicitly heard of a soldier being given a better weapon in the event of distinguished service. A promotion to NCO rank would theoretically make a Japanese soldier eligible to carry a sword. Japanese fighter aces were also given priority access to capable aircraft such as the N1K1 Shiden-Kai towards the end of the war. I've never heard of a comparable story for the Americans--the closest is Tony Stein's contraption, the "Stinger", which his superiors seemed content to let him experiment with. Several officers also were fond of the Model 1917 .45 caliber revolver, but that was a personal choice and not a weapon awarded for service.

This is the only true answer, coupled with Katanas. Then it will be true to TWI's vision as well, since nobody can prove they weren't there.

The Mondragon Rifle was made by the Japanese under licence. They were used in Manchuria against the Chinese and against the Soviet Union in the years leading up to the Japanese entry into WW2.
Their numbers were quite limited, about 5000 made. The Phillipinos were also supplied with Mondragons by the Mexicans - not sure how many of them were captured by the Japanese - the Japanese tended not to use enemy equipment, no matter how much better it was. I have read about Allied forces encountering these Automatic Rifles in New Guinea. Again, a rare weapon, but one that may have been given to Distinguished Soldiers. Still, the Mondragon was alot more common than the Type 4... I have no data on the Caliber of the weapon, but we'd have to presume Arisaka 6.5x50mm, as there was no problem with the Japanese selling Type 38 Rifles to the Mexicans who wanted them in 7x57mm (the same caliber as the Mondragon) so making a Japanese Mondragon in 6.5x50mm would make sense. |

Complete with missing trigger and guard! For those special times when you just need a regular sword with a gun handle. :/
