Hello Red Orchestra 2 players!
I'm pretty new to Red Orchestra 2, I played for 12 hours now. I hope that you can provide me some tips! 1.When do i need to hold my breath in RO2 ? Only with rifle and all the time or only at long range or when aiming at a common hiding spot. 2/When i play marksman, Sometimes it looks like the bullet is going straight trough an enemy.. Do i need to aim above the enemy due to wind or distance? 3.enemy players see me while i can't see them? Is this because i have less excperience or are there some tips for this. Thanks in advance! |

Welcome mate! Hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of RO2.
To answer your questions: 1. Hold your breath to steady your aim when in iron sights. Basically unless the enemy is too close to miss, you should hold your breath. 2. Play rifleman until you get used to how to aim and hit targets before you play Marksman. Marksman is a valuable role that when in the right hands can do great damage to the enemy team. If you can't use it properly, I would recommend leaving it for someone who can, and practice practice practice with it on bot servers. I have over 300 hours and I still don't feel competent enough to play marksman. 3. Yes, it's due to experience. There are various threads about individual tactics in this forum that can help you out. |

Welcome to the game!
1. If you're talking about "zoom", you can hold your breath whenever you want even without a gun. Zoom isn't in classic mode tho, only in Realistic. 2. With sniper guns or any gun for that matter you can dail in your trajectory with your mouse wheel, go to iron sights and move the wheel. 3. LOL! there are glitches where you think you're hidden but you're not, like in a crater, behind a bush ect. or the enemy has a good camp too. You can reasign most of the function keys to your liking too. The best thing to do is learn by playing the single player, at least the training missions. marksman --> should only notice bullet drop at >100m, and remember to put the very tip of the point on the target, a lot of time I miss because I'm putting the target completely under the point/foresight and shooting over them

Thanks for the great answers guys!
My "Zoom" breath control is already getting better when playing against bots. After some games online & against bots i came up with the following question: sometimes it looks like i kill more people when not holding my breath, It's like im playing better that way. Even on long range. Is that possible or is that because i'm not used to holding my breath in other games? |

It just takes some getting used to..... that and those bots love to jerk left and right while running, making them harder to hit when your mouse speed is slower.

I find it best to resist the urge to hold your breath/zoom if you can, and save it for long tricky shots. It may be easier to kill people with the button pressed (especially with zoom in realism), but you lose mobility and outside of classic you lose a huge amount of peripheral vision. And that's asking for a closer enemy to kill you.
The bullet drop for rifles is very small, so much you can mostly ignore it on the vanilla maps. I suspect some of the custom maps in the future will change this though. As for your third question. Experienced people know where to look. An inexperienced person will scan through the entire screen looking for people, a veteran will instantly know the likely places the enemy will be and concentrate on those. The more you play, the more you'll get a feel for where to look. Windows, doorways, trenches, etc are the obvious places to look, but each map has features and bits of cover that see common use. Snipers and MG's especially tend to gravitate towards the same spots.

Some guns like smgs and especially pistols I find easier to fire from unzoomed iron sights because the recoil doesn't shake the gun so much and it makes it easier to get your sights back on target after firing.
When you die from a totally unseen enemy, there's a good chance that someone is firing from the flanks. Especially when you die behind cover, there's probably an enemy hidden to your side. When I realized this, it finally dawned on me that it is essential to control these flanks. When I started playing I thought it was most important to be in the capzone fighting. Now I feel that controlling the flanks and attacking the objectives are equally important goals. |

Awesome feedback guys. It helped me alot! This game is really fun.
I hope the community grows some more now that it's $4,99 on steam. I bought it for the full price. LOL! I'm used to the zoom/breath function now and are getting pretty much kills with my rifle. It just took some time to get used to it. and with an assault i only use it at long range. I also learned most of the maps now. So i know where to expect enemy's. Appartments and Barracks are my favorite maps at this moment. When i started i found this game really difficult, but now it's alot easier. So thanks again for the great tips! |

1. tap into natural savaege power. Hold back for die.
2. Dont let fear become king and chase the happy from you. 3. Dont let anger burn your soul. 4. Craete frendships and use those to overcome obtsacles! 5. become good at aiming. Do these and always victory. |

If you plan to go in for a quick engagement I would recommend crouching quickly while getting into iron sights before firing. It helps reduce sway and recoil.

My few top tips:
Unless you're about to be rushed by an enemy hoard, always take a glance at your map before tossing that 'nade - it will save you from many an embarrassing tk! As a squad leader, get an arty target marked early and keep updating it - it can make an inexperienced TL look good, and get you out of trouble too! Also if a squad mate is close to hand at an ammo dump, drop your smoke (backspace) for him to pick up and collect another - double the smoke = half the risk and double the confusion. If you have just been sniped from an unknown location, resist the urge to go back for revenge - chances are you've been flanked, so go wide and flank the flanker! - it also reduces the chance of returning to the same spot and being blapped again! Also a good rule of thumb is to relocate slightly every time you reload. If you're assaulting and likely to be fighting room to room with a SMG, stay on the move - you're reactions will be far more effective than the stationary guy hiding in the corner... unless it's "The Gunner Doyle" and he has an MG34 (a bitter, bitter repeated experience!!!) Try playing either for axis or allies for a week to learn the maps/routes and sweet spots, then swap for a week and see the other side of the coin - it'll help you tactically no end! Last one - If in doubt, respawn on squad leader (especially if he's rank 75 and above). IMO It's the games verson of some grizzled staff sargent saying "Ahhh, the replacements we were promised. Things are getting ****ty here, I want you to go down this road, STAY IN COVER, take the third alley on the right and you should find corporal Schmitt/Valensky (delete as appropriate), he'll tell you what to do next". With you're SL you'll get points for kills near him and cap quicker with him too.

Ive been playing FPS, since 1999 (DF2, BHD and so on) but this is really a great experience. Once again thank you for the responces here! |

Hi,
sry that i kidnapped this thread. I am very new at Red Orchestra 2, it's a lot of fun. But i doesn't understand the difference between the "classic" and the "action" mode. Does anyone know the differnce? Greetings from Germany PS: Please excuse my poor pronunciation |

Action" mode is a relaxed mode of the game, Cross hairs/Bullets doing less damage, etc easier game mode. More forgiving Classic" mode is the hardest, Extra Zoom has been removes(shift zoom) But there is IS zoom(just basic Iron Sight aiming zoom). The speed of movement has been decreased. Weapons are restricted to mostly native weapons for Soldiers.(but a person can still pick up any weapon) Its a tougher game mode, with greater emphasis on team work. No weapon upgrades, no stats are used,, other subtle changes to resemble the original RO ...etc Realism is the middle mode most play. Just look around this forum(s), the tactics section/ the Suggestion threads are a good place to get up to speed with the game n what hot n whats not There's things I forgot or unaware of in Action/classic modes as I do not play either much(rarely) Good luck n stick with it Soldier. You will be in the Know before long @ Sister NunGun... a Bot is a AI, A virtual soldier, Artificial Intelligence... Bots are basically fillers in empty servers, not much fun and are super shooters... Weapon... well a rifle is a good weapon to use n master first, but not much use in close urban combat <10 meters imo... Do not go SL(squad leader) or TL(team leader) as these positions are for ppl that know what there doing.. As SL n TL are critical to a battle(round/game) Cheers.... Start playing with automatic weapons, you'll feel a lot safer and get used to the game mechanics faster. Later, when you feel comfortable with the controls, start using a rifle. It's the best way to become a great player in my opinion, because rifle teaches you to aim precisely and make every shot count. Oh, and, as a new player, avoid commander and squad leader classes as much as possible, as those roles put big responsibilities on your shoulders. More tips... uh, use cover a lot, avoid running in the open, try to survive using your instincts and don't hang at the same spot for very long. As a rifle, support your teammates by going with them, as alone you're not very effective as a rifle. Ah, a major tip, don't run into artillery like many people do, it's suicidal. :PPP Gamemodes... Avoid Classic, it's a lot harder, slower and more experienced players play it which makes you an easy target. Best is to stick with Realism. It's like a balance between classic and action and the best way to learn the game. More tips... Press 'Z' to spot enemies when you see them. Trust me, that helps your teammates a lot! You're also more than welcome to use voice chat to report any unusual enemy activity on the battlefield to your team, such as, enemy tank coordinates on the map. That way friendly AT soldiers can expect where the bugger is and kill that bastard. Not sure if you still need tips but it's the best I can tell you. Cheers!

Remember kids, if you miss your first shot with a semi automatic then you can always just mash your mouse1 button and wave your sights in their general direction.
