The SVT40 doesn't have a 'self cleaning' gas system like the M1 or M16 rifles. Regardless of ammo type, it has to be thoroughly cleaned after shooting.

The M16 has a self cleaning gas system? That's news to me! :P

Opinions on the aesthetics aside, there's nothing wrong with the wire folders, infact they have a lot of positive sides to them.

They are really easy to fold and unfold, and it doesen't require you to let go of the weapons grips to do so, just press the button/level with your right thumb and shift the weapon around a bit, and the stock will swing into place and lock.

They shoulder more comfortably than a downfolder, though not quite as compfy as the Russian triangle side-folder.

They do not block either side-mounts or the mode selector. Russian triangle folders cannot be folded with optics mounted because it swings left, wire-folders swing right so that's no problem. Downfolders partially obscure the mode selector when folded, making it difficult to opperate the weapon when folded, the wire-folders get around this problem due to their shape, opperating the weapon when folded is no problem with them.

Really, the only bad thing i can say about them is that they do not provide a good cheek-weld like a solid stock does (but that's a common problem of folding stocks, infact you have the same problem with the downfolders), and they don't really work well with any sissy-pad's if you want to increase the pull of the stock.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

I bought two more! An M1893 Spanish Mauser in 7MM, and a Star Modelo Super in 9MM Largo.

It doesn't. Anyone who tells you otherwise is full of it.

As far as shooting corrosive ammunition through an SVT-40, it's not a big deal if you clean it after shooting that. That's what I shoot through mine without any issues.

You don't need to clean the gas tube/block on the m16/m4 series. All the carbon is deposited in the star chamber and bolt face. What part of the gas system do you clean?

You clean the chamber and the bolt face. People hear "self cleaning" and think that's all there is to it. I should have been more specific.

Looks badass!
