Default What would the Community like to see next by way of Content?

Just curious. Many people seem to be desperately unhappy with the current game modes, feeling R02 to have fallen far short of the mark.

Would Dev time be better spent rectifiying the perceived flaws of game modes or should TWI concetrate upon new maps and weapons or features such as the online campaign? Is there really that much wrong with the game at this stage post-patch? Are YOU happy overall, niggles aside?

Should they perhaps create an entirely new game mode such as "Classic Realism" for those disappointed with how Classic turned out? Should the fiddling just end at this stage? Does TWI feel it has met its "obligations" to the old guard? So many questions. Polls seem only to make people bare their fangs more often than not and are generally skewed by way of potential responses so lets have a nice civil discussion instead.

(Personally, I'm a new player with zilch experience of Ostfront, I'm a happy camper alternating between Realism and Classic as things stand. I could have lived with Realism alone and to be honest much prefer it to Classic. I simply don't like the pace and mechanics of RO:OST with tarted up GFX. Following the patch this former diamond in the rough has really begun to shine with nice injection of new blood into the community.

Some "vets" see these new players as "diluters", a rabble, steering the game from its pure "Tactical Shooter" origins to "run and Gun CoD" simplicity given their favouring of realism mode. Would a new game mode be the panacea and definitively bring harmony amongst the disparate groups? Me? Hell, I just want new weapons and maps!)

I'm not!

Red Orchestra 2 is my current go-to game for FPS. I played BF3 for about 2 weeks before I got bored. Red orchestra is fantastic by comparison. It's the closest game to what I'm looking for in an FPS that I've seen.

Could it be better? Yes, of course. But it was a lot cheaper than BF3, and I've got an enormous amount of fun out of it already, and I'm not feeling likely to give up playing as long as there are servers with other players to play with.

I'd like more maps, and more vehicles (a part of me wants to see a squadron of PzIIIs try to take on half a dozen KV1 for the first time) but I can't bring myself to demand that they do more work for me for free; I hope they make enough money to pay the rent, buy coffee, and have enough put aside to invest in the next product.

I have to disagree on "many people seem to be desperately unhappy". (However I respect the fact that it's opinion based and none can talk on other people's behalf)

-The latest patch resolved almost everyone's problems. Performance is great even on modest dual cores.
-Classic mode has been put in and realism servers have much more server options.
-The new map is excellent...
-There is map making contest going on, this will add a few good new maps by the end of it.

Granted people are looking forward to more new content, tanks and halftracks, but all in good time. The support of RO2 is far from over and so far TWI is doing a great job at it.

I am pretty sure Yoshiro will be doing a new What we are up to post in the announcement section of the forum in the near future.

As for the discussion.

Short term: I am looking forward to the outcome of the mapping contest. It motivated me to download and look around in the SDK... Hopefully I will find the time to learn it and maybe do a basic map, but I know I wont make the contest timelines. The outcome of the contest will add quite a few new maps.

Medium term: Next big patch with official TWI content. I think there are 2 light tanks in the works. I would hope they would come with a second free weekend and another new trailer.
Would be nice if the Iron Cresendo guys or another group of dedicated fans with time on their hand can pick up that project and push it hard during the next free weekend, when population is really high.

Long term: APC's would be a dream come true.

Out of all the new content they could add, half-tracks would change the gameplay the most (and for the better). It would allow for bigger custom maps, along with longer-distance engagements, and a more thriving community due to the added variety.

Content, primarily vehicular content seems to be the "winning" ticket thus far.

I disagree regarding the comment about sub par maps .I have played FPS for over 20 years and some on the MP maps in this game are with out doubt some of the best i have every played .And there are some good beta maps around and with the new mapping contest i am sure you will see more in the future.Yes we all have maps we dont like but you take the ruff with the smooth ,

Ohh i know what they should do dont release any maps for close to a year then charge every one 40 euro in advance for a selection of maps they are yet to see ,Ohh sorry i forgot thats BF

Just my thoughts but i think the large maps on this are great and i cant think of another game that caputres the era and atmosphere of wold war 2 better with its MP maps? can you ???? .

Love the maps myself, so many strategies to be effected depending upon player class. I'm still disovering new nooks and crannies from which to shoot people in the face!

Well, I got the game right after the free weekend, And for a week or 2, When I would play, the player count was anywhere between 2500-3000.

Here's my three theoretical , do-able solutions/suggestions

1: We need more maps from the Developers. I would say at the very least double the current map count. This plus the maps that come from the Custom Map Contest. I sincerely think if TWI is not making new in-house maps, and is depending on the "custom" maps for a more varied and ample map count, then on to point 2...

2: New uniforms, New Weapons, New game types, fix mapping and gameplay glitches on the current maps, New vehicles to current maps , if this is not done...

3: Game remains at current level 400-1200 players on at a time. It's not bad
but when that player base is spread out on a few full servers and the rest being 5/64 with 38 bots, It's not very appealing. I don't like bots at all btw.

At this stage, to keep me interested: maps, maps, maps, maps, maps

I know the stock maps in&out. The custom maps made by the community are a fresh breeze but still. I need more maps...
