I am on the side of 'it's not gonna work' but also a bit on the 'well see how it's done' as well.

Perhaps getting shot, being patched up and returned to battle immediately isn't realistic, but what if being patched up had some other effect?

For example, you might patch up a soldier and then he might slowly bleed out anyway, but his death wouldn't use up one reinforcement - so this way a medic can help his team by saving reinforcements for his team. Not much of a help maybe, but it might just be enough to turn the tide at the last stages of a round.

Um.... I don't do this. Out of ammo? Look on the ground and you'll usually find plenty, or at least another weapon...... or I'll go club some bad guy and take their weapon.

Out of grenades or smoke?

Bring up the map.... wow, look at that! Ammo Caches and most are within a short walking distance.

Why bother the trip to an ammobox and all the way back again? `suicide enter
you're done
And for the amount of time you take to respawn and head back to the front lines, you could have got that ammo from the ammo cache, killed a couple of guys and not take your team's respawn tickets down for no good reason.

Remind me to play on the opposite team as you.

Back on topic a bit, as most can see from the various changes and tweaks the game would require for a Medic class to be of any remote use in the game, it's simply not worth the time or effort for TW to revamp a huge chunk of the gameplay mechanics to suit one class that wouldn't benefit the game all that much, let alone benefit the teams.

Sounds fun in theory, but.....

My point was not that I keep suiciding all the time, or that other people do, but the game allows for that because of the short distances and short time to spawn in the majority of the situations, not even accouting by spawning on Squad Leaders with Commander's Forced Respawn. So what it really means is that a person trowing a smoke grenade really does not have to care about his precious life. The benefit of throwing the smoke is great and will last long enough, meaning that it will still be a lot beneficial even if he dies throwing it. Respawning and throwing it again. If the game was to have permanent injuries and disabilities, It's the same case of scuttling a tank. We'd generally opt to terminate our pathetic handicaped lives and pick up a fresh soldier in maybe 5 or 10 seconds.

Missed opportunity for a Top Gun quote makes me sad

I like the no tickets loss idea. Depending on where people are shot, they can either be dead, or critically wounded. Simplest way would be that instant deaths result in deaths and the slow bleed out deaths are wounded. Wounded bodies can be attended by a medic within a set time period, (30 seconds?), if the casualty gets medical attention no ticket is lost for their death.

In a manner of speaking & perspective I'd have to agree with what you say, but I don't suicide unless either:

A - I'm physically stuck somewhere on the map and can't move (glitch)

B - I'm in a tank that can't move and can't shoot (thus can't get to an ammo cache to repair my tank)

But in regards to smoke and dying, I'm usually a Commander more than a SL and I'll pop my two smokes with a long throw while near an ammo cache (I plan ahead) so that I can quickly restock and have four smoke grenades instead of just two..... and if I die, in a short span of time I'd have 8 smoke grenades scattered around (not including any I find on the ground)
