Yeah they're pretty snug, mine took a couple taps and some wiggling to get it at first. It's easier to get a flat head screwdriver and lever the thing out where the rear trunion is.
It's more that they're not cut thin enough or swelled into place rather than that they were laquered or soaked with oils/grease. Just takes a little bit of effort. |

Ah, yeah I forgot about the screwdriver bit. One more question though, after the stock came out, how did you cover up the hole that was left? Or can you buy folding stock that have a cover?

don't mess with it till you get the new stock. i'm not a fan of using a screwdriver to leverage it out, either. rubber mallet, maybe. i'm guessing you're going for an aftermarket folding stock. get it first and then hammer yours out. you might decide you don't even like the aftermarket stock. no reason to hammer yours out, just to try and get it back in later. p.s. i think aftermarket folding stocks look lame on ak's, myself. i'd rather have what you got.

I've got a Romanian WASR, pictured a few posts back, and while that stock looks nice, it's just not my style. I've seen too many of those types from my time in the Army and they just don't work for me.

You could shell for a russian made skeleton folder from a place like k-var.com but WASRs don't have that notch on the reciever for them to lock into place.
It'd work but you'd be stuck with an expensive and floppy side folder. Underfolders are a bit expensive too, and would need a lot more work to get into a WASR reciever. Wire folders seem to be cheap but they look like crud IMO. Probably aren't that comfortable either. Just about any kit you get will have the parts you need, you just gotta make sure it's for stamped recievers and not milled. Personally I'd just get a fixed stock and rock n roll. There are russian style stocks that are 922r compliant out there. I bought mine from k-var, it's pretty much the same thing they put on Arsenal AKs, minus the fancy side folding stock. |

Or you can sell your current AK and get one that comes with an under folder so you get the traditional look and don't have to try sloppy conversions.

Very nice. What exactly are those sights? I did see those recently IRL at a show, but did not receive an explanation.

Its a standard flip up ladder sight. The 'wings' were designed to allow user to roughly estimate an aircraft speed in order to 'lead' his shot.

i'd either keep the gun and get an under/side folder, (my choice) or sell it and get the one you really want. remember, there's no such thing as too many ak's in the safe.

Just went to a show today, guy had some WW2 relics. A C96 wood holster/stock for ~$100 and some other neat bits. There was a strange looking self loading rifle that had the profile of a G41 but it definitely wasn't one. It had a flash hider and some other different stuff. There was an MP41, too. I'd have taken pictures but they aren't allowed.
Gonna go back tomorrow and see if they have anything different. |

The SVT40 only seems reliable/robust compared to the G41 and svt-38. Fun to shoot but not to clean.
