Default I've got a huge package

So after making what ended up being a bad decision (increasing tessellation on a huge terrain), I got a warning message telling me that my package exceeded 330 Mb and that I should split it up. Any advice on how I can do this?

Also, since increasing the tessellation I cannot open my map file. The editor crashed while I was in the middle of working and not I can't re-open the map. BOOOO.

If your autosave feature was enabled, you can find the autosave file in your mydocuments folder somewhere, at work so I don't know the exact location. It should have several different versions of your map, previous to the error.

I gave this a shot but tried to open an autosave with a big file size. I'm at work, too so I have to wait until later try again.

Just going off of memory here...

The map file size jumped from about 86,000 mb to 185,000 mb when I increased the tessellation via the terrain toolbox.

I can't remember the UU dimensions but I think it's something like 60,000 x 30,000. this is just the "working" size and not the finished size. The only reason I tried increasing the tessellation was to be able to cut out terrain for trenches.

in terrain properties:
drawscale x: 64
drawscale y: 64
drawscale z: 256

Min tessellation level: 1
Max tessellation level: 2

Didn't you saved previous versions ? Can't believe you didn't save any other version and saved it on an external disc ot what. Open it and look at you previous terrain values. Terrain requires lots of memory.
Increasing tessalation will raise the size in MB's of your map and will
influence performance.

Big noob mistake. I was saving a copy about once a week but should do it right before making any big changes, too. I have some autosaves from right before I made the tessellstion change that I'm going to try to open when I get home from work today (only 5 hours to go!). I think it'll work fine but just didn't want to loose any of the other recent changes.

Also- On your suggestion I'm definately calling it Zapad-bla-bla after all of the changes I'm planning on making. I'm seeing so many things about my map that could be improved by moving things like rivers, streams and hills around

First thing I do when starting a project is save MyProject.xxx and immediately save Archive_MyProject.xxx , and update the archive version before trying anything weird.

Save often (and far more frequently than once a week.)

I also found the bigger problem which was that I had unknowingly copied + pasted the entire terrain layer so that there were 2.

Yep, same here. I thought I was going to need to trash the thread at first.
