Default Opinions on the 6x PEM scope?

So I just unlocked the 6x PEM scope for my scoped SVT-40. I was all excited about it, but then I started to play with it, and I found myself severely disappointed. Am I the only one who thinks that 6x is WAY too much zoom for RO2's ultra-small maps? Handling the 6x PEM scope is far too cumbersome, with the default scope being much more versatile with plenty of zoom for the tiny maps RO2 gives us. Heck, RO2's maps are so small the only reason I don't just use ironsights with my sniper is because of some sort of sense of "Well if I'm just going to use ironsights, why am I hogging the Marksman position instead of taking an unscoped SVT?" Point and case, I actually feel like the 6x PEM scope NERFED my scoped SVT-40, and I don't see myself ever actually using it over the default scope because it just zooms too much for the tiny maps we have. Does anyone else feel the same way? I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this scope. Seems like a lot of effort for a piece of garbage.

Tried it on Ogeldow? Sure you'd get more fun out of it there. (A custom map with the possibilty of 300m ranges)

i don't have the 6x pem yet, but the zielsechs for the mauser. i really like the increased zoom, especially on fallen fighters it's very effective. of course 6x is not as good at medium range, but there are several spots on some maps where the increased magnification is a nice thing to have.

This is why I love the g41 4x scope - decent zoom, and bugger-all tunnel vision, so aside from the reloading it's the best rifle for marksman distances by a mile . This is also why we'll still see smaller scopes as you said - tunnel vision problems at the ranges you usually engage at ruin your fighting style more than not having enough zoom. At least you have some decent sniping ranges in the custom maps and mamayev, so they've made something that can be used by the modders at least

You're probably correct, but does it really matter? Can't we just forget about the restricting "Stalingrad" business and simply have "Eastern Front"?

Which button is used for the zoom anyway? I never play sniper, but pick it up once in a while. Haven't found out yet...

I don't like it too much. Sometimes fun on Pavlovs to snip enemy snipers. But I prefer the x4 nagant zoom (or kar)

Yeah, agree the stock maps are too small but once we start seeing larger custom maps you'll be glad you have it.

As an aside, I waited for the "mega patch" to get to level 50 on the AVT-40 because I thought I would hate the scope (and knew I could "remove" it after the patch).

Oh, I couldn't have been more wrong!

I know it's a ridiculous weapon, but having semi and full auto on a rifle, and a 4x scope, and a bayonet...

Definitely the best "multi-tool" in the game!!

...and that's why calling the game Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad was a bad idea to begin with.
Why not Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Eastern Front or plain and simple Red Orchestra 2?

I find the sniper rifles wholly unsatisfying in the game. I miss more shots with a sniper scope than I ever do with a plain old bolt. Like the OP says, the zoom on these tiny maps that RO2 have provided so far, doesnt really merit a sniper scope. Once the larger maps appear the sniper scope will make a difference, but until then my trusty bolt will do fine.

I use the iron sights on my sniper for shooting and the scope for reconnaissance and 200+ meter shots on stationary targets

funny isn't it?

The 6x PU scope didn't see service at any stage during the war, period. So adding it to a realistic WW2 game would be ridiculous nomatter what time period within the war we're talking about.
