It's really not necessary to add that info into the "ROGame.ini" file every time. It's noting but hassle. every time you want to add custom map you have to, shut server down, download rogame.ini file, add new custom map info, upload rogame.ini back to server, restart server, you have new map in wed admin.

Easier way just make a map specific ini add the info inside upload to server, restart server, and you have the new map.

Isn't that what I just told him?

(Tip: To keep from having to edit your ROGame.ini file all the time, you can also make an .ini with the exact same name of the map. In that file put the ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo stuff. Put that "custommapfilename.ini in the CONFIG folder where ROGame.ini is.)
And there is no need to restart the server. It picks it up on the next map change. If you want it shown really fast, just initiate a map change.

The current patch version should be 27. Yours is 25.
If updating doesn't update the ROEngine.ini file to patch version 27, then delete the ROEngine.ini file and let it regenerate. Then add the redirect info again.

Also add the ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo stuff to your ROGame.ini file using the example given in the wiki: (Tip: To keep from having to edit your ROGame.ini file all the time, you can also make an .ini with the exact same name of the map. In that file put the ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo stuff. Put that "custommapfilename.ini in the CONFIG folder where ROGame.ini is.)

Get Custom Maps To Show In Web Admin

To get custom maps to show up in the change level section of web admin, admins will need to add a data store for the game in ROGame.ini. A data store looks like the following example:

[te-custommap ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo]
MapName=te-custommap
FriendlyName=Custom MapGame
Type=ROGame.ROGameInfoTerritories
PreviewImageMarkup=<Images:ui_textures.menus.HostG ame.MapSelect_Community>
Description=Mamayev Kurgan
LoadMapMovie=LoadScreen_Mamayev
MapTips=TEMamayevTip2
MapType16=ROMT_InfantryOnly
MapType32=ROMT_InfantryOnly
MapType64=ROMT_InfantryOnly

Please note the use of lowercase in the map name and read the Known Issues to Avoid section for more information on the topic. This holds true for the mapcycle as well.

Known Issues to Avoid
  • Linux Redirect
As a redirect server can be a Linux machine, it is very important admins have the closing forward slash in the URL as well as spell all map names in lowercase. Failure to do so will result in a broken redirect and clients will only obtain a 1kb file of the proper name but not the actual files. Also take care when adding the map data store to the ROGame.ini to use lowercase as well as the server will use those file names over any typed in as an admin.
  • Traveling from a custom map to a custom map
When a server goes from a custom map to a custom map, clients will download the second custom map, however there is a bug where the client will just see the "connecting" screen without any updated information about downloading the custom map until it is downloaded and begins to load.

A redirect server needs fast speeds and as much bandwidth as possible, but little else.
Retrieved from "http://wiki.tripwireinteractive.com/...ver&oldid=1051"

=======================

If that fails,
Post the exact filename that you've placed in your cookedpcserver folder.
Post the command you're using to start the map (complete with the filename).
Thanks for the reply.

I was aware of everything apart from the server patch being outdated and how to make individual mapinfo.ini's.

Surely the redirect should work even if there is no ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo?
( I have tried with and without )

As without it I can still open the map and play it if we have the files.
( 6 of us played Cold Steel no issues last night. )

As for the patch number. I thought that the server versions were something like 1.1.0.5?
We are with a GSP, so having already asked them to update via steamCMD to 1.1.0.5 what do I need to ask for and how to get it to patch 27.
Can I really delete ROEngine.ini and let it regenerate?
Would that require a re install, or would it work after just restarting the server?

Thanks again,
Boss

I think a re-install will be necessary,since ROEngine.ini may not have been the only file updated to patch 27,although i don't see what this has to do with files not downloading from the redirect, or ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo,since the map is obviously working on the server anyway.
The server version IS 1.1.0.5

My Thinking exactly.

I did a full wipe and re install yesterday. Put one custom map on. NO ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo, just the map. ( Butovo B5 ).

Played it no issues.

Added the redirect info in. ( tried ours and TWI ) Changed AllowDownloads to False. Deleted my local files and checked cache was empty,

And....same.....just sits at MAP TIP screen. Others then reported same.

Cant think what i'm missing.

When you uploaded the map file to the redirect did you change the extension from .roe to .upk ?

Yes. But should not be an issue when testing with TWI's own redirect anyway.

From our index -

Cheers/

So, its working.

Did another wipe, reinstall.

1 custom map as a test ( Cold Steel ).

Only thing I did different was to make a separate .ini file for the map to place it in the map list as I was unaware of this before.

So no idea why it was not working before.

Thanks for all the input anyway guys, much appreciated.

@Mike, my redirect is a linux box also. I just copied Yoshiro's syntax for map names he had on his redirect. I did this before also when it was not working.

It would have regenerated the ROEngine.ini from the default*.ini files.

Glad you got it working. I'm wondering if it was an updated ROEngine.ini file, not having the ROUIDataProvider_MapInfo data, or some other anomoly. My guess would be .ini files that were from an older version, but who knows? Its working....

Our favorite developers in action:

Quote:
Tripwire's redirect server, http://redirect.tripwireinteractive.com/ro2/, will be down for the next 24 hours. We are switching over to a Windows server to eliminate the case-sensitive map name constraint. In addition, downloading from this address will no longer cause clients to download 1kb cache files (causing players to lock-up on the loading screen). With these changes the new server will be more robust and less prone to setup errors.

NOTE: Players that have bad 1kb cache files already download will have problems connecting to the same custom maps. We are working on a client update to recognize and remove these files.

Cheers,
Andrew

Lol X 100 on that move. Everything has been windows with RO2 and they put in a linux redirect that has caused lots of grief. I know TWI doesn't go out of its way to shot itself in the foot but . . .

I did read today that it is being moved over to a Windows machine and that they are trying to work out a way to remove the 1kb files in players cache that is preventing them for getting maps.

Wanna know what really trips my trigger? The ReDirect and cache method worked perfectly with RO/DH. Why was it changed? This "new" system has been a nightmare for all Admins.

Thankfully, at least at this point we now have a fully working and fast redirect - I've always used Windows both for my Game Servers and my ReDirect Server.

I have two redirects at the moment. One based in Australia under a simple net account plan and the other in Texas with a company that are a specialists in game redirects.

With all the problems I am not confident enough to use either so I am sticking with the TWI one even though it is very slow downloading to Australia.

How much bandwidth does TWI recommend for a redirect ? Would be good to put this to my Australian people to see if their set up can cut the mustard.

I wonder if that little patch on the client side was to fix the 1kb problem ?

It no longer shows a webpage as it was causing problems. But it is working and up.
