Default Webadmin woe

I can't reach Webadmin when attempting to setup a Linux server. Is using a desktop distro a possible reason? I have double checked the port forwarding on the router. I know this has worked previously. Perplexed

Using the machine I'm trying to setup the server on I ran a port scan but 8075 is not detected. This is when the server has been started of course! Also, a Netstat check shows no port/service running on 8075. I'm trying to use the Linux guide sticky above. Any suggestions where I may have messed up are welcome.

Do I need to install some sort of http package maybe?

I can see the udp ports (7707. 7708, 7717, 28852 & 20560) in the Netstat table when the server is active.

The logs say:

Webserver is not enabled. Set bEnabled to True in Advanced Options.

I've changed the KillinFloor.ini as follows: -

[UWeb.WebServer]
Applications[0]=xWebAdmin.UTServerAdmin
ApplicationPaths[0]=/ServerAdmin
Applications[1]=xWebAdmin.UTImageServer
ApplicationPaths[1]=/images
bEnabled=True
ListenPort=8075

This doesn't work though & the same error is logged?

Did you restart the server after making the changes?

Also, as I asked before. Post the entire log and entire INI. Edit out passwords.

Going to delete the kf installation & start from scratch. I'm going to follow the linux guide sticky above again. I can't see how the ini file or logs will help considering the first time the server is launched the problem is encountered. I think I need some specific Linux advice. Is this expected on a desktop distro, if so please can you let me know what packages I need?

I know this works fine on a server distro, have used the guide twice at least. I 'upgraded' a server install to a desktop install & the kf server worked just fine. However, I nuked the install after I ballsed it up installing gnome desktop packages on Ubuntu 12.04 & messing about with xconfig...gdm/lightdm issue. Nvidia+Linux=headache.

I digress, I've reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 desktop & I've configured a realtime kernel but now webadmin will not work.

Edit: same issue apparent after redownloadling the kf hlds installation completely

shutting server down first. May have sussed it. I had to run the server with the -nohomedir switch whilst also defining the admin name & passwords as admin: -

./ucc-bin server KF-BioticsLab.rom?game=KFmod.KFGameType?VACSecured=tr ue?MaxPlayers=6?AdminName=admin?AdminPassword=admi n -nohomedir

Can't even be arsed caring why that didn't paste properly

Now it will only work when I specify the -nohomedir switch? Why is this, I didn't used to have to do this?

I'm too much of a noob to use Linux

I logged in as admin on the server & the pause command didn't work. Now what's up with that? What strange voodoo does this -nohomedir inflict upon thy self?

Ok found [Engine.GameInfo]...dont remember having to do all this crap previously? Still don't understand why webadmin wont start without the -nohomedir flag...

Because you're editing the wrong INI if you don't use the -nohomedir as the INI would be located in a different directory. .killingfloor/system I think.
