If you are a fan of Eagle Dynamics flight sims, there is some good news regarding their next title, DCS World. Essentially they are moving to a Rise of Flight system. One install, one game. Not more installing the same game twice. You just buy modules (with playable aircraft) to unlock all of the content.
Currently you can download the beta for free. In the beta you can fly the Su-25T (from Flaming Cliffs 1/2); I think this will also be a free aircraft in the final version of the game. So if you ever wanted to try the updated Lock Ons without buying them, this would be a nice option. I am not sure if Flaming Cliffs 3 (and the rest of Lock On's planes) will be integrated into DCS: World, though I would assume they will because the Su-25T was ported over. And the P-51 module for DCS: World is now on sale. If you buy it you can activate the beta version of the plane in the DCS: World beta. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87426 http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ Also announced is the 3rd party DCS World addon DCS MIG-21Bis: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87621 Last edited by Flogger23m; 06-15-2012 at 10:37 PM. |

Sounds awesome! Im a dcs fan myself but kinda hesitant, do we know if this uses the same dcs core or if it is dumbed down like MS Flight, because that was…upsetting…for me.
Also, what if I already have most of the DCS games, no chance of integration is there? Sorry to bombard you with questions, ill read the website when i get the chance.

DCS World is just moving to a Rise of Flight model. This is far better than buying Black Shark 1, 2, and then 3, ect. Now, you buy a plane, you have it forever. When World gets an update it applies to everyone even no matter what planes they have (even if only the free Su-25T). So when the next aircraft is released and new AI units, 3D models, AI, graphics and whatnot are released with it you will still get the engine/game updates less the new flyable plane.
Personally I am happy because I bought Lock On three times already... though I will have to buy it a 4th more than likely. As I understand it, Flaming Cliffs 2 and Black Shark 1 will not work in World. But Black Shark 2 and A-10C will work in World. Just insert your CD keys and they will be activated. Eagle Dynamics is also allowing 3rd party payware aircraft like Microsoft did with FSX. The first such project is DCS MIG-21Bis: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87621 You can download the mod version for Lock On FC2, though it causes some issues. This will be official though and have more polish. I don't care for the P-51, but I will get the MIG-21. I just hope Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft get some slight updates and are added in a single pack for a sane price (like $20 for all of them) and is integrated in World. Is the beta open or closed? I have a disc version of Black-Shark and steam DCS A-10 so having both in one package would be neat, especially since I can upgrade to BSII for 20 bucks. Since I cant find anything on their website aside of the board I take it I have to preorder P-51 to get acess?

DCS A-10 from Steam should work from ED's site, as should Black Shark 2. Black Shark 1 from Steam will not work on ED's site though. |

More third party addon makers are switching over from FSX to DCS: World. Some of the announced projects are the T-38, BAE Hawk, F-22A, F-15E, F-14D, F/A-18E and Eurofighter.

A question, about this DCS world ground command. Does it support commanding infantry or it is just armour vs armour ?
Because only armour vs armour... silly.

I believe you can control infantry. Essentially any ground unit, SAMs (mobile is in the videos, not sure about static) to infantry.
