Pending Update 1.7.1 Details Rough outline of what to expect in the pending update.

I will update this as more stuff is put in. Changelog will then follow it.

Performance and Optimization

- Reduction/elimination of the new server lag. This is caused by the ArmA2 server expecting immediate response from the central server. Vehicles are the main cause of this, as whenever they are damaged everything stops while the server ensures this is recorded in the database.
- Bugs fixed that were possibly causing very significant netcode overhead (will need mass-scale testing to verify this).

Infected Behavior

- Infected can no longer see/attack through walls.
- Entirely new mocap'd attack and running animations

Content

- Additional Idle Infected sounds
- Revised Attack sounds
- Many new action sounds, including IV, bandaging etc...

Notes

- This update will REQUIRE the beta patch, so it is worth installing this now and getting used to it.
- Read up at the BI Forums about the beta patch install. It's pretty easy.

Also I'm very happy about 93666 OA beta patch. You can no longer use gamma glitch at night (it doesn't work anymore).

CoD kids will rage and leave night-time servers . Secondly I and friends really enjoy servers with all chat channels disabled, but direct.

0/40 night servers confirmed. Now NVG's will be even more valuable.

Anyways, I uninstalled dayz yesterday. I've sank too much time into it, and it became kind of repetitive. I'll reinstall after a few major versions, hopefully there'll be more incentives to play it rather than getting a car or a better gun.

Rocker mentioned that they keep working on medium to "end game" content. It's only Alpha now, but very very impressive one .
He also wants to reduce deathmatch aspect of the game and makes survival element more crucial.
Quick solution would be to remove gun and half of supplies and medicaments from freshly spawned players. Right now player has everything to survive quite long and start "bean wars" in Czerno.

I really don't like the playstyle you describe. It ruins the immersion for other people and frankly its not the way the game should be played. For one example, I was in the middle of nowhere in the wilderness and came upon a guy. I got a little closer and tried to call out to him if he was friendly. Instead of either fighting me or trying to be friends he ran into the field, plopped down, and disconnected. It was extremely lame.
pker = player killer, with the implication that this player only just goes around killing other players.

life mod = Chernarus life, saharani life, zagrabad life etc. These mods made civvies and police. Players could go around buying real estate, fishing, gathering, mining, and producing products such as vehicles/guns/food at ingame factories that they also had to purchase. The cops were supposed to keep the peace and enforce the occasional speeding ticket. The fatal flaw was that anybody could be a police officer, and there were no incentives to not be a pker and kill everyone when you got the chance. So most of the time it was an idiot policeman demanding to search every car ( And likely shooting you anyways ) and giving you tickets and fines for made up things ( doing 20? speeding ticket for going over 100! ). While most of they players just went around stealing eachothers stuff and killing them.

For saharani life I played with a few friends as a cop team who actually apprehended criminals. Meaning no stupid checkstops to extract ticket money, but infringing on the civvies as little as possible except to hunt down murderers and terrorists and throw them in jail. The trick being that I had made acquisitions of some technology and firepower that police usually dident get access too, the most blatant one being a stinger missle setup, most of the notorious criminals liked to fly helecopters and thought they were immune to police intervention... to my credit I asked them nicely to land and do their time quietly once before acquiring a lock signal on their bird.

To each their own really when it comes to playstyle, I've always found ARMA to be a very weak game for PVP, although most of that distaste dates back to arma 1 when rubberbanding was a fair bit worse.

On the subject of Arma2 -
It's been at top of the bestseller list on Steam for a long time now. What gives? Is it the Day Z mod that's creating all these sales for a 2 year old game not even on sale?

These guys must make sh*tloads of cash right now, good on them for making their game moddable I say

Edit; so Day Z took off some time in April:

That's pretty damned amazing...

Its really good that arma get a sale boost. I just hope that bad people wont interfere in the community. There is no room for them. Its only room for people who want more realism. Its good that there is many people in BIS community that shares my opinion, though.

I gotta download and try this mod out myself btw.

Don't worry, There is no DayZ discussion/Thread on the BIS forums, It was taken down at the beginning of May when the new dayz forum went live.

As far as the DayZ player base is concerned most of them have never played ArmA2 before, so they are up against a program that is not the most user friendly on the market.
Take my word for it, the forums are difficult to moderate, one needs the courage of a to survive...

I have to say that this mod has taken over the small amount of gaming time I have available. Once you get supplied enough to make it out in the wild the game gets even more interesting as you are constantly trying to decide if entering a town is worth it, and you have a lot to lose. Right now I have an AK, Colt 1911, all the basic survival tools, and tons of meat. With all the time I've put in I'm embarassed to say that I just figured out that I haven't been using my backpack, and just figured out how to put supplies in it :P

I've yet to enter the hallowed NW airstrip, and that is my next mission.

Just played my first life in Day Z. I'm not dead but I am on the verge of dying from thirst and a zombie just broke my leg. I had been taking it slow and sneaking around avoiding confrontation, but I knew I had minutes to live if I didn't get water so I started sprinting house to house searching and slaying zeds with my hatchet (which apparently has a range of about 15 feet). Wandered through 3 entire villages, found a ton of ammo for guns I don't have, killed 20 zombies with a hatchet, but just cannot find anything to drink. Makes one wonder how exactly the people of Chernarus managed to stay hydrated.

I very much hope the MMO the STALKER devs are working on is like this, only more polished and with all the lovable and varied aspects of the STALKER games.

I'm trying this for the first time. I found a hatchet and chopped up some zombies but found only bad loot. I logged in later and upon entering a building I find a fellow survivor. I see him for only a second before he retreats. I grab my mic and try to communicate because I know he saw me too. He answers in bullets. I run around the corner and wait... I hear his footsteps and I know he's doing this the dumb way. Instead of walking around the corner with some distance, he turns around it well inside the range of my hatchet. A few chops later, I'm down to 4000 blood but the satisfaction of "Bandits killed:1" makes up for it.

Hey you two above,
I've set up camp a little NW of Rog Castle I have enough Morphine to mend those broken bones and some freshly cooked steaks to pump up your blood count.
I also got a couple of water bottles to spare if you need em.

Official ArmAII/CO build 1.62 came out yesterday (although there are very few servers running it at the moment (waiting for Steam + Six Updater).
I've checked it out and it seems/is good to go.

If all goes well a new build for DayZ will be released later today.

I finally got the sale I was waiting for

Tried it for the first time 2 days ago, only 30 minutes tho...

I have not been scared playing a game in a long long time

I was unarmed, crawling in what I think must be the worst possible village.

Infested by zombies everywhere. All houses I tried to get into were locked... I found nothing and was always surrounded by undead.

After 30 minutes of this stressful hell I made a run for it... being chased by multiple zombies... and then server timed me out...(Thank god as I had to go to sleep)

I didn't die but I have no idea how the game will continue.. I rather restart fresh (I hope it will)

Rather amazing how such a mod can boast sales of a niche game.

I stopped playing this a while ago.

It's just not worth my time to go through the hassle of getting a decent weapon and kit only to be picked off at complete random by somebody who doesn't even take the time to loot my corpse.

Day Z isn't a zombie survival mod, it's ARMA 2 DM with lame spawns and no starting equipment. The zeds might as well not even be in the game.

The worst part is the head developer is so full of himself he thinks his mod is some kind of statement about the condition of society and how it would react in a real zombie apocalypse. Like a bunch of guys would be wasting their time wandering around in the woods killing every last living human being they see, just to take their food and ammo.
