My bloody characters won't unlock!

Hello glorious Killing Floor forum.

I have a problem: I bought Killing Floor Gold Edition, activated the code through Steam BUT my characters won't unlock! They're greyed-out in the character select menu, and they still say "Purchase Character Pack yadayadayada to unlock" for all of them, including Ash!

I activated the code on Steam 2nd June, and since I already had most DLC and the game I gave the lot away to a friend. However I still got to keep the DLC that I did not already own. Including Ash.
But now when I check in-game they are disabled and when I check in Steam by right-clicking Killing Floor in the game library and pressing "Show DLC" this is what I get:

This is NOT what it looked like before when I redeemed the code! Two DLC packs that I used to see there were the Steampunk 2 pack and Ash DLC!

I've tried verifying file integrity once, re-installing the game and verifying the file integrity once again... but nothing.

My theories:
1. Ash was somehow tied to the gold edition Killing Floor copy and not her DLC.
(not very likely since then what would be the point of her having exclusive DLC in the Steam DLC window?)

2. Steam is ****ed up somehow and reversed the purchase like a *****.
(this is very unlikely since my friend whom i sent the game to is still able to play)

3. It's an issue with local files.
(I redeemed the code on another computer, after which I did not launch the game... perhaps I need to launch it on that computer to enable the activation?)

4. CHAOS IN THE FORM OF INABILITY OF ACTIVATION, DLC ANARCHY AND THE FALL OF MODERN SOCIETY

Needless to say I'm a bit pissed off since I was looking forward to an evening of relaxing zombie decapitation in the guise of a female.
