When the server changes maps, make the class selector slide around the classes as people enter the game. This way, when more people are joining, the player won't get what he chose, but will get the class right above it, or worse!
To make it harder, cause the commander to spawn with enemy weapon. This way, while the player is changing to his side's gun in disgust, his selector will slide around more, or someone else will take the class. Wouldn't that be a hoot? |

It would be nice to add new property to a player - Spawn Class (in addition to current class).
When player is respawned (after killed) he always spawns with his Next Class (his current class is assigned from Spawn Class). When player selects any class - he always change his Spawn Class, not current class. So he always stays alive after selecting any class. Weapon selection system should use Spawn Class instead of current class to display in UI. Squad selection screen should have Swap button in front of any soldiers. When player clicks Swap on you - you see Accept button (instead of swap button) near his name. Changing your Spawn Class should never lead to suicide. |
