Bah, people who don't play both sides are fools. They're missing out on half of the gameplay. It sounds so incredibly closed-minded to say "oh, I only play ____"

I'll be playing on both sides, but with speed, intensity, and the spirit of the warrior!

Indeed. I never played a game where I could play as Japanese, except for MoH: Pacific Assault which I didn't play online. Don't want to miss out on either katana's or flamethrowers (assuming there are katana's that is).

CoD WaW had playable Japanese.
Their default rifle was the SVT-40

I think that game is somewhat responsible for a lot of "OMG BONSAI CHRGEZ" they're expecting from this game.
The more realistic the portrayal of this game, the better off, I say. The Pacific Theatre is always shrouded in mystery and painted in propaganda.

Jap is an offensive term, and while some use it as an abbreviation, it is rooted in a history of hate and intolerance that lasted long after WW2. It invokes such memories in those who lived through the internment camps, whom returned to their homes after the war to find their possessions looted and "Japs not wanted" spray painted on their doors. So yea it is a pretty offensive slur and it pisses me off when people use it, unknowingly or not.

It is offensive but in terms of realism and authentency I have no problems if and when US Soldiers in the game will call the japanese soldiers japs (voice chatter). No big difference to fritz or krauts which is also the same level of offensive.

From videos and reports, it seems the US forces did tend to use the word Jap, or even Nip, fairly frequently in their day-to-day talk - and 'Tojo' seems to have been pretty popular too.

I don't see a problem when incorporated in a game- racism was very prevelent in the pacific theatre, from both sides.
