Since according to the info we have now RO:O has been optimized greatly, like for example running a tank map without problems on a full server, does this have the same effect on trees? Normally a mapper would have huge restrictions to the use of trees, since it really messed up the fps etc. Is there anything new to improve this? In short will it be possible to make something like a forest map that still runs good?

Well, no matter what optimizations have been done level design will always be a trade off between looks and performance.
Has the performance of RO:O been improved? Yes, without doubt. Will you be able to build a map like RO-Tali-Ihantila? Possibly, but it will still be a challenge. Btw, there is a huge new database of tree meshes in RO:O for level designers to play with.

That last one is great news, those old trees made me get really fed up with em really fast :P Hope theres some nice low poly ones in there so I can make a forest :P And if all else fails, i could start learning maya myself...
*laughs really hard at himself*
