Remarkable.

Aaanyway...

Discrete weapon IS zoom is illogical and only serves to artificially exaggerate the strengths and weaknesses of weapons and map sizes (which isn't a good thing). SMG soldiers were not Myopic.

I’d have much preferred a default non-zoomed IS (benefit being no free-aim and pinpoint accuracy whilst still retaining a good field of vision) and a toggle-able fixed zoom up to a global standard maximum (x1.9 seems to be the general consensus). Importantly, the zoom should be toggle-able regardless of whether you’re in IS mode or not. Why? Because lifting a weapon up to your eye doesn’t suddenly magnify your vision – it’s a gamey mechanic to compensate for the game not being able to represent the detail acuity of the human eye on a typical screen resolution. Once you accept and understand why this mechanic needs to exist it therefore becomes easy to rationalise allowing IS (thus weapon) independent zoom - look at it as being ‘scrutiny’ or ‘concentration’ if the term zoom conjured images of cybernetic enhancements.

Mike,
So far in this thread you've only told people how terrible they all are and haven't contributed to the subject matter at all. You don't actually have to try to turn every thread on here into the Mike Nomad Show. Contribute or butt out.

Agreed.

Mike, what are YOUR thoughts on the IS zoom? Do you think it should be a feature?

Defective.... all you've ever done is take cheap shots at me or what I've said - when the shoe is on the other foot you cry..

As for contributing,

Agreed with Mr Moe. (Don't tell me "zoom" isn't realistic, read the threads about FOV and all that...ugh)
I agree with Moe and LL; these things should always be an option. Either Admin or Client... perhaps both. Never simply removed.

I've played the classic, and I'm already putting my head on the screen sometimes to pixelhunt for an enemy on the larger maps. And while it's a nice change that I no longer get laser rifled across the map, I do not think that even less possible zoom would really favour gameplay.

The pixelhunting in RO1 was overboard and did not contribute to gameplay, vanilla RO2 went overboard in the other direction and classic mode hit the sweet spot.
As far as I'm concerned, leave it like it is now, it is fine.
