Default Connecting problems

Hi everbody,

I've been playing both RO and DH without problems for a while now. However, after the latest DH update I had problems connecting to servers. Soon I found out that this problem affects both DH and RO, so I un- and reinstalled both - but in vain.

If I try to connect to a server whose map I already have, I join the server, I hear people talking and see messages for a few seconds - and then the game freezes. Or, at least the action freezes, I'm still able to exit the server properly via the menu.

If I try to connect to a server whose map I do not have yet, the game tries to download the map (or other data packages), but aborts this after a few seconds and then remains "forever" with the "Connecting..." (or i my Version " Verbindung herstellen...") screen. Even waiting for dozens of minutes doesn't change anything. Aborting via F10 however is still possible...

If tried out this here, as it sounded like my problem, but it didn't change anything:

Quote:
Error: RO Will freeze on connect - For Firewall/Router users
Fix: Make sure the following ports are open on your firewall/router
7757 UDP/IP (Game Port)
7758 UDP/IP (Query Port)
7767 UDP/IP (GameSpy Query Port)
28902 TCP/IP (Allows your Server to Connect to the Master Server Browser)
8075 TCP/IP (Port set via ListenPort that your WebAdmin will run on)
20610 UDP/IP (Steam Port)

Error: RO hangs on connect to server
Fix:
1) In your steam directory find the steam.dll file
2) Make a copy of it
3) Navigate to common/redorchestra/system folder
4) Replace the steam.dll file there with the one you have copied.
As I've already reinstalled the game and the problem still persists, I suppose the problem lies with me and not with the game...

I hope you can help me somehow.

could you perhaps try to delete both your ro and dh system folder. Then after doing that and redownloading those folders start RO first and then DH.

ok, I deleted the two system folders, and then checked the game cache via steam to download them again;

unfortunately, it didn't help... I had the same problems as before when trying to join a RO server;

in DH then I had the DHGermanCharactersTex.utx problem, and deleted the DHGermanCharactersTex.det_utx file - however, joining a server was still impossible...

Check and make sure that you do not have any DH files in your red orchestra directories. That will stop RO or DH from working.

If you have DH named files in your RO directories move them to the DH directories.

little update on my situation

After weeks in which i was unable to play DH, I set up my laptop at my parents house. Without changing anything I tried out the game - and it worked. I could play for a few days. Back in my own apartment - it didn't work again.

According to my logic, the problem has to be with my router/modem. It's a THOMSON TG585 v7, and for hours I've tried to open some ports

8075 TCP/IP (Port set via ListenPort that your WebAdmin will run on)
20610 UDP/IP (Steam Port)
but in vain...

Is there anyone with knowledge about Thomson routers?

OK guys, I found the solution and I will write it here and in a separate thread.
Quoting myself (lol no, I'm not Ceasar):

Well, after a few hours spent in various forums I found the solution.

First I found out that problem was in servers with Punkbuster, but still this was no solution since I want to be able to log into all servers, especially those with cheat protection.

Then I discovered this nice video here Killing Floor / Monday Night Combat / Homefront BT Home Hub and Thomson router telnet fix tutorial - YouTube where this fantastic guy shows how to solve the problem when you have a Thomson TG585v7 router.
So, now I think that people with this router won't have any problem with online experience.
