Question Good Tank Books?

Can anyone recommend any good books on the experiences of WW 2 tankers. Not books on tactics but books that talk about what it was like to be fighting in a tank during WW 2. Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

One of the best I know was one written by a Brit called Ken Tout - can't remember the name of it - about his experiences in Normandy. He wrote a follow-up (not quite as good) later. I think it was "Tanks! Advance!" or some such.

Definitely the first is ;
"Tigers in the mud"- Otto Carius

and the second;

"Armored battles of the Waffen-SS"-Will Fey

I consider these two as "The holy grail of a WWII armor maniac" :) Both consists of the real first hand reports of tank veterans.

Beware though, what you'll read is very different from the current RO tank combat ;) Let's hope "it'll get there".

If you want to delve into the workings of the german panzer divisions, I don't think you'll find a better reference than these books:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...936556-7031808

There are two books in the series. I have both. They cover the development of the panzer division, organization, tactics, after action reports, etc. They also include complete details on the organization and equipment of each panzer division & panzer grenadier division throughout the war. Want to know where the 3rd Panzer Division fought and how many tanks it had on Feb 12, 1942? It's in here.

Try reading Panzer Leader by Hienz Guderian. Goes through the development of panzer divisions to the battles in Russia. I am about half way through it now..great read.
