Default About artillery and tanks

Was watching this documentary about the battle for Berlin called,"Hitlers war and the battle for Berlin"
One German survivor that was in the reichstag 30th april, he was anti aircraft soldier. He said in the documentary that there where no russian artillery falling down on the köningsplatz and the reichstag.
And there were also a russian survivor (soldier) that said, "We had no artillery support and no tank support while we where storming it, the movies and pictures you see today is just propaganda".

Ok guys what do you think about this? can this be true??

Having read Anthony Beevor's Battle for Berlin 1945 and Osprey's book about Berlin in the campaign series, I find these comments somewhat hard to believe. Both books clearly mention the extensive use of artillery by the Russians. Maybe he is talking about the actual attack itself? Artillery fire would not have been very intense when the soldiers were actually advancing along the Königsplatz. Speaking of which, I'm fairly sure the Siegessäule was moved a few hundred meters to the south west on the Charlottenburger Chausse in 1937, complete with the base.

Although, I have to admit. Red Orchestra's Berlin map is by far most accurate map I have seen in any game thusfar. Props to the mapper!

This is most likely true, since you would never use artillery while your own troops start an assault on a 400 meter deep square.

Artillery was used in preperation of assaults. And you can be sure Konigsplatz and the Reichstag were bombarded to hell before the attack took place. Hell, the russians fired at the building from point blank range across the square, and they even hoisted a cannon up to the second floor of the Ministerium I think.

So basically, if you want to be really 'realistic' and treat this game as an reinactment tool, you should not have artillery available at all. On none of the maps. No where in the entire game

We think it's too much fun to take it out

High Caliber direct fire weapons were not classified as Artillary. Many at guns were deadly when loaded with HE rounds. Yes..no offical Arty..but when faced with 5 late war PaK's loaded to bear with HE rounds....yes...you can say those are arty. AT guns with HE can be very effective.

There are many books ( even a video) that shows the rounds from a AT gun going into a building (HE) ..the place is leveled. SO.....I agree...we may not officially have arty in some maps..but direct fire guns were common...and deadly

I think the map plays very nice like the way it is. I see no reason to take them out just because they weren't there on that particular day. There were many russians tanks in Berlin itself, and a few remaining tigers, so i think this 'artistic' licence is pretty much ok in this case.
