Default New Item Guardians

the idea is for a new type of shop item what they are is basically mobile turrets that follow you around their functions vary reflecting its perk. like a medic guardian would heal all players including the owner around them a firebug guardian would use a a combination of flame weapons like a flame thrower for mid range and a fireball launcher for long range get the idea? they should be easy enough to implement and would not be game breaking as long as they arnt oped.

Interesting idea. A bot who's skill isn't predetermined, but, rather mimics the players perk. There is a standard sentry and a med sentry already.

A support one with shotty could be done and would work well. I'm not sure about a demo one, seems too chaotic as far as explosives leaving smoke in everyone's face and maybe blowing things up that aren't supposed to. Firebug would have to be husk cannon because I think if it spammed flamethrower it might get heavy on people's framerates. A berserker one would be funny with a buffed health and wielding a sword or w/e. Sharpshooter seems tedious, maybe a crossbow bolt for weapon?

I like it. I still hope someone does a mutator for the sentry's that allow for some very basic commands. Maybe a hold position and follow me would be great.

We've already got a battlemedic turret and a rambo turret in the KFL mod, maybe you're thinking of something along those lines?

yes i was thinking of a turret mod i once saw in a random server when i came up with this. you had a portal turret which you set down it cant move and it just shoot whatever comes in range but the one i liked was this little sentry bot that would follow you around and gun down several enemys. the point of this idea is to create a new defensive based item which helps the player out considering we dont have too many of those we have armor the welder and medic syringes and the flashlight if you wanna consider it.

Agreed, exactly what I thought of, you mean Doom Sentry and Medic Sentry right?

I wouldn't have thought they would've worked too well in Killing Floor? Seems quite a stretch from our current technology.
In addition, each player having one of these would really affect the game balance. Also, it would potentially be extremely annoying with a fleshpound or scrake.

Star hero, there are mobile bots that follow players around. This is good news for your idea because the framework exists (models, animation, coding) for more abilities to be implemented into. I'm not saying it's a piece of cake, but there are some great steps towards what you are talking about.

Commandooom sentry uses machine gun (already exists)

Medic:Heals player that bought, could also heal others (exists minus healing others)

Support:Shotgun, armor weld (on servers that allow armor welding)

Sharpshooter:This seems like it might get really annoying. Like say if it rages SC and FP from far away and players don't even know it happened. Team gets wiped because sentry spotted something and shot it with no warning to team.

Firebug:Not sure what the best weapon is here because spamming flames bogs people's system down. Imagine a server with 16+ people 40 zeds and then 3 or 4 of these laying out streams of fire. Some people's computers are going to craaaawl.

Demo:All of the demo smoke would be a real pain to deal with, I did like your mine idea, maybe limit it to 5 layed out mines at a time and reduce smoke effect?

Berserker:This one seems like the most fun to watch. Cyrax spinning blade maybe? Something to that effect. Armor boost on it.

as far as i know the doom one and the medic ones arnt whitelisted so you cant level up with them but you are right they can be used as the core for these items. the sharp shooter one has potential as long as its aim is good it could take the head off a scrake for example and it could be set so it waits for the bigger zeds to be attacked before fireing if you can think of a better role for it let me know and post it below. for the firebug sentry im thinking a short ranged flamethrower or a fireburst weapon which lets out a radius based damage maybe? the beserker sentry can leap and grapple onto the bigger zeds and continually melee attack it or immobilize it like the jockey from l4d2 as for the smaller zeds it could use your spinning blade idea. maybe the demo sentrys weapon can have a cool down between each fire i magine if the mines ran out it would be pretty useless so it can either have a grenade weapon with limited mines or only the mine layer with unlimited mines with a per 5 cool down and reduced explosive smoke would be an excellent idea.

Already exists including the healing of others you mean.

there would be 1 sentry for each perk. a support sentry welds armor repairing it and uses a shotgun weapon a sharp shooter sentry which uses long range weapons a beserker sentry would use melee attacks and grapple onto enemys immobilizing them the commando sentry uses a miniature mounted chaingun for its attack and the demo sentry uses explosives maybe some kind of mine layer which lays mines which have about half the strength of a pipebomb and of course the 2 i mentioned in my op. i was thinking more along the lines of a drone rather then bot. and a command list would be kinda neat especially if you can tell your sentry to seek out another player and protect them. did i forget to mention they would receive boost from their perks just as any other weapon would?
