Default Community Poll - Should we reintroduce Lockdown to Classic

Classic currently only has 3 features completely removed from it compared to other game modes.

This poll is designed to find out if we should consider returning those features back into classic. This poll is about Lockdown.

Should we reintroduce a server side option for Admins to enable Lockdown in Classic mode?

I'd say no, but I do think there is a potential problem with maps dragging on too long. I think being able to configure maps to only play a certain amount of rounds like in ostfront would be a good solution. Some maps like Apartments that tend to have quick rounds can be fine with best of 3, but some like Mameyev Kurgan would probably drag on with 3 rounds and we would see people quitting. I would have only 1 round in a map like that but without lockdown.

There should be some defaults like that. 3 rounds is just too much for me but I like to at least have 1 full round without it being cut short

I would say that it is disabled by default, but server admins can turn it on if they want.

Off. If the point of Classic mode is to get closer to the feel of Ost, then it should be off, always.

Who here has played a long round on Berezina all the way to the end, and either won it or barely lost it in the last minute or so? I have, quite a few times - and that would not have been possible with lock-down enabled. The same could probably be said for Leningrad and others. With that though, it would be nice if we could switch the way a map plays to one round instead of 2 out of 3.

If we're going to have both a Classic mode AND a Realism mode....the more that differentiates the two is fine.

BTW I think they way this thread was titled will automatically make people vote No. The poll question is different and its not quite clear what would be default. As a server side option that was default to OFF I would not mind so much. It would depend what was default and if it worked well now without spoiling games

I do not like Lockdown, no my vote is no.

As for the options comment, that is what TWI experimented at release. Lets keep it simple this time. There is not much of a community left to split up even further.

As an option only, with the default being NO lockdown.

This, and the improved Lockdown in the beta and not the vanilla lockdown in current release.

Absolutely not. Maps like Commissar's House are 10000x better now without lockdown.

I'm divided. On the one hand, the tweaks to Lockdown for Realism mode are a huge improvement, so when people disliked Lockdown, we can now say "this is not your grandfather's Lockdown". I've always liked Lockdown in principle, but the improvements are great for it and pretty much obviate the strongest objections to it. So in that respect I think it would be a good fit with Classic mode. Then again, I'm more of a fan of Realism mode to begin with so my opinion is probably a dilution of the essence of Classic mode.

So on the other hand, regardless of changes to it, the absence of Lockdown seems to be one of that set of core things that defined what an RO Classic mode would be. It seems weird to expand into a distinct mode, conceive of a mode that goes the opposite direction in "Action mode" and then double back and collapse the differences again.

The best solution would probably be as it is: to make Lockdown one of those "custom" options so that a server admin can choose to have Classic with lockdown in their setup, only their server is then classified as "Custom" rather than "Classic" . I think players that hate Lockdown in any form would be rather pissed to join a server that is classified as "Classic" only to find it has Lockdown.

It's the one reason I play classic, no lockdown.

Default off but available as a server option. You never , ever throw away tools. Didn't your papa teach you that?

Bad allegory is bad, because I could say something like "Hopefully he taught you that you need to take out the trash" as a response. Neither comment is very constructive.
